Happy New Year and 1 Year Anniversary Of This Fic! Enjoy this anniversary special.
Meredith strutted down the streets of Los Angeles with her chin held high, and her confidence beaming like the sun's rays. She wore tight light blue skinny jeans, a see through red tee, purple converse, and Gucci sun glasses. What she did to afford those sun glasses will be a mystery to all human kind. She had left her hometown in the East Coast to study Business at University of Southern California. Coming from a wealthy family, she didn't have to worry about expenses for school, but food, clothes, and other essentials had to come from her own bank account. So, she got a job at Topshop, which was thankfully only a few miles away from her school. The job barely covered car and phone bills, but she managed in other ways.
Everything in her life was going smoothly.
She had a boyfriend for a while. His name was Mathis and he was from France. She only started dating him because she was interested in his story. He was born in Syria, but migrated to France when he was 13 years old. Meredith liked his story. It was fun to tell at dinner parties. She told him it gave them character. 'Would you believe it? The girl with gay dads working for the U.S government is dating the immigrant kid from France.' She loved the attention. There were endless conversation topics about their relationship.
But she broke it off. She liked being alone. She liked when it was just her versus the world. He was nice and all, but she didn't love him. That was always her problem. She never really chose people to hang out with or be with who she actually liked, she just thought about how they would look together in public. Once she'd realized she wasn't really in love with Mathis, she didn't want to tell him. She was afraid he wouldn't understand where she was coming from. She disregarded her fear and told him. Told him everything. And he completely understood, but she saw the sadness in his eyes.
She carried on after the breakup. She was in her junior year of college and could not let anything get in the way of her success. Everything was in line for her. She was just ready to run a company someday and make fucking bank.
Recently, she reconnected with her old friend from summer camp when she was younger. He was starting his first year at USC, studying Art and they ran into each other at the Starbucks on campus.
Meredith jogged over to the Starbucks from her dorm building. She muttered a soft 'Fuck' when she saw how long the line was. She proceeded to the line anyways, because she needed her morning coffee and her dorm didn't have a coffee maker. After finally getting her coffee, she took a quick breather and sat down on a park bench. She suddenly felt a tap on her shoulder. She whipped her head around to see a familiar face. She couldn't pinpoint who it was though.
"Remember me?" His German accent triggered Meredith's brain to flood with memories.
Her jaw dropped. "Dolph! I haven't seen you for like seven years! Sit down, let's chat."
"So, how are you Ered?" Dolph asked and sat down.
Meredith cringed. "I go by Meredith now, actually."
"O-oh, okay," Dolph stammered. "So, how are you Meredith?"
"I'm doing well. So, you're a new student here, huh?" She asked.
Dolph nodded. "I can't believe the first semester's already over."
"Same. It goes by so quickly year by year, and the work pays off. I don't know what I'm talking about," she laughed at herself, and Dolph gave her a confused look. "Um... so why didn't you go home for winter break?"
Dolph shrugged. "My dad wouldn't pay for the trip. And I'm... well how should I say this. I'm broke-ass Ered." He paused. "Sorry. Meredith."
"You can call my Ered," Meredith said softly.
"Okay Ered. Anyways, when I was living with them we never travelled, but my family is almost as poor as I am, so we really can't afford plane rides," Dolph explained.
Meredith tilted her head. "How could you afford school though?"
"Scholarships. Being from Germany really helped me out here," Dolph joked.
"I know how that goes. Having a hard life really helps out when applying to college," Meredith said.
Dolph chuckled. "I wonder what the other camp kids are doing now."
"I think most of them are still in high school. I miss everyone though. No matter how much I hated camp, I really loved the people. We were family." Meredith smiled as she reminisced her old days. "Anyways. What have you been doing lately?"
"Oh nothing really," Dolph replied. "My girlfriend Eva went home for the holidays, so I've just been focusing on work right now."
"Were you alone for Christmas?" Meredith asked.
Dolph shook his head. "No. My Jewish friends came over to my house for a Christmas dinner."
Meredith laughed. "You... you have Jewish friends?"
"Of course I have Jewish friends! I love Jewish people," Dolph smiled.
This caused Meredith to laugh even more. "I'm sorry for laughing it's just... never mind."
Dolph shrugged it off. "I wonder how Nurf's doing."
"He's probably in jail," Meredith joked, yet she was somehow half serious.
But no, he wasn't in jail.

Nurf sat at a Chile's patiently waiting for his friends to come celebrate the publishing of his second book, Parents In Prison. His first book, Finding Chris, My Lover: A True Story, was a True Crime/Romance smash hit. Nobody thought Nurf would ever become successful. Even his mother. His mother was always one-hundred percent supportive of him and whatever he wanted to do, but she didn't expect him to become this big. And his dad, he was dead. Nurf touched on this in his new novel, discussing the mistakes he made that led him to his death.
New Years' Day was a great day to release his novel. New year, new Nurf. Every year, he and his close friends saw him improve his personality. He had been arrested a few times during high school. Unpaid parking tickets, buying drugs. But since he was under 18, his criminal record was cleared once he graduated. That made it easier for him to be signed by a management company. Overall, he was doing pretty well. He only thought about Camp Campbell, once a year, in July. He remembered stabbing people, throwing rock snowballs at kids, and giving massive wedgies. He laughed about the person he used to be. Nurf was so happy that he made the decision to better himself.
