A/N: WOW THIS CHAPTER IS IRONIC BECAUSE I AM WRITING THIS AS I AM CONCUSSED AND INJURED.

SECOND NOTE A FEW DAYS LATER: THANK Y'ALL FOR SUPPORTING ME AND NOT BEING PISSED THAT I HAD A CONCUSSION. I'M FEELING 100% NOW AND I'M HAPPY. I LOVE YOU GUYS!

Nikki woke up and immediately recognized her surroundings as Max's apartment. She tried to get up, but she felt a sharp, shooting pain in her foot and sat back down. Only then did she remember that she took quite a fall and either pulled or tore a muscle in her ankle. She called for Max, then Gwen, then David... but nobody came. She realized that she was alone in their house. She reached for her phone when she heard the front door open and she heard Max and Gwen fumble in while chatting. Gwen was carrying crutches and Max was carrying two bags from CVS.

"I just feel bad Mom. I should've told her to stop pushing herself or I could've had her tie her shoes better or-"

"Max, she tripped over a fucking rock. It's not your fault," Gwen scoffed and spotted Nikki. "Oh good. You're awake."

Max speed walked over to her and handed her the bag. "We got you Advil and a shit ton of candy. I'm sorry you're in pain, I feel really bad Nik."

Nikki chuckled. "Max. It's okay, it's not your fault," she said and took four Advil, dry, which shocked Gwen.

"Nikki, what the fuck?" Gwen asked and pointed to the water on the coffee table. "Why. Did. You. Swallow. Four. Pills. Dry?"

She shrugged. "I was lazy and didn't see the water. Also, Advil is easy to swallow dry."

"That doesn't mean it's good for you!" Gwen said, genuinely concerned that she had been doing this her entire life.

"Well, I haven't died yet, have I?"

"Good point, Nik," Max sarcastically said and put his arm around her. "Anyways, I'm glad you're okay."

"Yep, me too. I'm glad I didn't break anything," she said. She looked won at her ankle and had a realization. "Oh fuck, maybe I did break something."

Gwen raised an eyebrow. "Why do you say that?"

"Well, when I broke my toe a few years ago it was all black and blue, and now my ankle is black and blue. So maybe I broke it."

"So, do you need an x-ray or something?" Max asked.

Nikki nodded. "I can probably have my mom take me to the ortho-"

"Nope," Gwen interrupted, "I don't trust her with your serious injuries."

"Neither do I," Max agreed.

Nikki rolled her eyes. "You guys don't have to always take care of me. My mom may suck but she can take me to a doctor."

"No. Trust me, she won't take you seriously. Do you remember when you were twelve and the tip of your finger got cut off at camp?" Gwen asked.

Nikki chuckled. "Yeah, that was hilarious. The platypus spit it out and David threw up on it."

"Do you recall when your mother said that it was no big deal?" Gwen asked.

Nikki looked down and laughed it off. "Yes. But it really wasn't."

Max snorted. "You're insane. We're going to the fucking doctor Nikki. We just want you to get better."

"Okay," Nikki said shamefully. "I love you guys." Max gave her hand a squeeze and sent his love for her.

After the hospital visit

They did a few x-rays on Nikki's ankle and she had definitely fractured it. Her bone was nearly snapped in half and Max nearly threw up. Nikki was fine throughout the entire visit, until they told her she couldn't play Volleyball for up to six months. She was heartbroken, and stated she would still be playing no matter what, and that she could play this off. And they explained to her how serious her injury is, and that she might never be able to play again if she continued to play. She was extremely upset, but agreed.

Then some terrible news was given.

"Miss Johnson, we're going to schedule you back here in 6 weeks and if you aren't getting better, you'll have to get surgery. But this brace and not putting any pressure on your ankle, it will most likely get better," Dr Garcia said.

Nikki groaned. "Dr Garcia, how serious is the injury?"

"Very serious," she said, with a stern look in her eye.

At Nikki's house

"Nik, there's no elevator in your building, right?" Max asked, worried that he'd have to carry her all the way up.

Nikki sighed. "No. I wish there was, when I'm drenched in sweat and tired it's a real pain in the ass to walk up four flights of stairs."

Max bent down and gestured for Nikki to get on his back, groaned, and started climbing up the stairs.
