David turned off his phone and walked to his boss' office and quietly knocked on the door. "Michael?" He said as he knocked on the door.

Michael (his boss) stood up and smiled. "Good morning, David. What's up?"

David and Michael were fairly close, so David was sure he would let him leave. "Morning. My wife is having some uh... pregnancy troubles and she asked me to come home and help her. If you need it, I can come in early tomorrow and do what I didn't have-"

"Nah, David. Go home. Be with your wife and come at the normal hours tomorrow. I'll just have Stanley do your paperwork. He's okay, he doesn't have a family," Michael stated. "Go, go home. See ya tomorrow, Davey?"

"Please don't call me Davey, Michael!" David said cheerfully.

"I'll never stop, Davey!" Michael exclaimed and waved.

David turned away from him and tried not to show his annoyance. He packed up his stuff and jogged home.

When he returned home, he quickly opened the apartment door and set his stuff down on the table. He spotted Gwen curled up on the couch just staring at a wall, rocking back and forth, just mumbling under her breath something David couldn't make out. He sat down next to her, and put his arm around her waist. "Gwenny? Are you okay?"

"My heart is pounding and I've been sitting here for 30 minutes and my anxiety is crippling." Gwen leaned in and rested her head on David's lap.

David stared down at Gwen stroking her hair, admiring his wife. Suddenly, Gwen sat up and let her lips touch Davids. David closed his eyes and leaned into the kiss, grabbing her waist and pulling her closer to him.

Gwen broke the kiss. "Davey," Gwen said.

"Yeah?"

"Remember when we first started dating? And hid it from the campers until Max came to our door at 2 AM and saw that photo of us kissing on the counter?" Gwen laughed, pointing over to where the photo still sits, even after 7 years.

"Of course I remember," David giggled, "God his reaction. 'You're fucking Gwen?'" David said imitating Max.

Gwen laughed. They just laughed for a minute. Then suddenly, her face went blank. "This is why I don't think about that day. This feeling."

"What feeling?"

"I remember seeing his bruised face and cut up body when I came downstairs, and being shocked, yet not surprised. It really scares me how I had a feeling deep down this was happening to him and I said nothing. When his parents picked him up from camp and he looked absolutely miserable and I didn't say anything. To this day, when I even point my finger at him he flinches and puts his arms up for defense."

"Gwen stop. Please. Whenever we talk about that you get depressed for weeks."

"But I've been scared to fully talk about it. We haven't even talked to Max about since the adoption process. Do you remember when he took off his hoodie because it was 117º outside? And we saw all the scars and cuts all over his body?" Tears were now forming in Gwen's eyes and David felt paralyzed. He hated talking about bad things because David is the kind of person who never talks about his feelings, but when he does, it breaks him. He can't stop crying, he can't get out of bed.

"Of course I remember. You asked him if they were from his parents or if they were self inflicted and he said a mix of both. He said that before he came to us he wanted to kill himself. He told us not to freak out and we didn't in the moment, but when he went to school I remember crying and crying until he got home. Just 10 years old and he considered suicide. He still has scars on his body." David stared at the wall- blank faced.

"David," Gwen said softly,

"Yeah, Gwen?" David responded, still out of it

"We need to talk about Nikki and Max."

"Um... why?" David asked, "They seem to be a great pair."

"Yeah but... okay. Nikki told me not to tell anyone but she and Max had unprotected sex because Nikki's on the pill and she got pregnant. But she said that that's not her main concern? And Neil is gonna take her to get an abortion today? Which was weird. But anyways, her mom found a text from the camp group chat where Max made a joke about them having sex and her mom flipped because Nikki isn't a virgin. And she won't let her see Max," Gwen said.

"Wait. Max and Nikki have had sex?" David looked very confused, while Gwen looked disappointed.

"Yes, David. They've been dating for three years. I walked in on him taking off her bra when they were 14."

David's jaw dropped. "They've been having sex for that long? They were too young!"

"David this is not what we're talking about, we are talking about the fact that Max is definitely gonna fall into a depression, even a suicidal phase, if they break up," Gwen explained, "We need to convince her parents that it's no big deal because they're 17 years old and can make their own decisions."

"Isn't her mom a... um... hoe?"

"Yes."

"Should we go talk to them?" David asked.

Gwen sighed. "That's what I asked Nikki, and she said no. She said her parents don't see us as Max's parents, they just see us as her camp counselors."

"Oh wow... that hurts."

"That's what I said!" Gwen exclaimed. "Wanna deal with this later and just... ya know... make out?"

David smirked. "Sure."
