it was a lovely day to be in ritou. of course, the day would have been better if you didn't have to be hauling barrels of wine from the ship to the docks. not to mention you had barely gotten a wink of sleep on the way from liyue to inazuma. then the day before that you had to travel nonstop from dawn winery to the harbor. you wanted nothing more than to just take a break and take a stroll around ritou island, but you knew that you had to get the job done or else you wouldn't get your payment. you took a quick glance at the rest of the barrels left and sighed. it would probably still take a few more hours to get everything organized and to check the numbers and receive payment.

maybe if you motivated the crew, you could get the job done quickly. although you knew it would be impossible to actually visit any island other than ritou island, there was still plenty to see from here. even from where you were, you could make out the statue of seven that was similar to the one of barbatos back home. even beyond that, you could see the bright pink sakura tree in the grand narakumi shrine.

as you were carrying another barrel, you thought you saw a familiar blond head from out of the corner of your eye. no, you thought to yourself, it's probably no one. you shook the thoughts out of your head. you hadn't seen him in years, and you knew that he didn't even work in ritou island. from what you heard, he was the chief retainer of the kamisato clan and their estate was all the way on narakumi island.

you brought your barrel to the marked spot and went back over to the ship again. that should be number 45, you thought to yourself as you checked off a box on a piece of paper. you picked up another barrel and carefully walked down the gangway, making sure that you didn't lose your footing. if you were to even make a small crack on these barrels, they would definitely break and you would end up in trouble with master diluc. that was definitely the last thing you wanted.

but as you walked off the gangway, you felt your foot get caught on the wood of the docks. oh shit, you cursed, i'm done for. as you braced for the impact of the fall, you felt yourself get stopped. someone had prevented you from falling over by grabbing onto the barrel.

"hey there! need some help?" a cheerful and oddly familiar voice chirped from in front of you.

"yeah," you huffed, "i think i need to put this one down for now."

"got it!"

together, with the man, you set down barrel number 46.

you looked up to properly thank whoever saved you from nearly losing your job. then you realized who it was. it was unmistakable. the messy blond hair, the bright green eyes, the tall and strong physique. and of course, the dog tag necklace that dangled from his neck. before you stood your childhood friend.

"thoma?"

"y/n?"

the two of you stood in silence for a moment before breaking out into wide smiles.

"oh my god! i can't believe it's actually you," you cried out as you went to give your old friend a hug.

he wrapped his arms around you. "same goes for you! what are you doing in inazuma of all places?"

you let go and looked at him. "i work at the dawn winery now and they wanted me to ship dandelion wine to here. i thought you were working in the kamisato estate. isn't that all the way on narakumi island?"

"i am, in fact, working for the kamisato clan, but lady ayaka wanted to visit ritou island so i came here with her."

"oh wow," you murmured. you had heard great things about the eldest daughter of the kamisato clan. they said she had grace of an ibis crane and the beauty of a sakura bloom. you knew she wielded a cryo vision as well and that she was exceptionally skilled with a sword. not only that but she was highly diligent and wise. she was probably closer to a god than a human.
