kaeya wasn't much of a reader. in fact, he probably hadn't touched a book since master varka told him to read the knights of favonius handbook about ten years ago. it was safe to say that he had never went into the knights of favonius library by choice in all the years that he was a knight and to be frank, he never intended on going. what's so fun about some dusty pieces of paper? once, lisa told him that he should pick up an adventure book since it would be fun, and he responded by saying that if he wanted to immerse in adventure, he would just go outside. (this promptly resorted to lisa kicking him out of her office.)
but now lisa ordered him to get a book from her desk since she was too lazy to get it herself. kaeya grumbled about it, but he went to get it for her anyway, rubbing his arm in the memory of what happened last time he denied lisa's request.
he sauntered over to her desk, first looking over it hoping to find the book quickly but frowning when he didn't see it. kaeya sighed and started rummaging through the many papers and books that were littered all over her desk. lisa described it as having a light blue cover with white accents and a gold binding, but he didn't see anything that fit the description at all.
"archons, why does her desk have to be such a mess," kaeya grumbled and slammed the desk.
"um, excuse me, do you need some help?"
kaeya wasn't easily startled, but he wasn't expecting anyone to be in the library after hours. he looked up to see a person wearing an altered version of the knights of favonius uniform and standing with several books in their arms. head tilted, you looked at kaeya quizzically.
"i'm fine, i'm just grabbing something for lisa," he responded nonchalantly, "although i'm having a bit of trouble finding it."
you walked over to him and set down your books on the table. "what are you looking for? maybe i can help out!"
"apparently it's a light blue book with white decorations and a gold binding."
you immediately perked up and snapped your fingers. "oh i know what you're talking about! follow me, please."
kaeya trailed behind as you expertly walked through the library and to a bookshelf in some corner. you hummed as you ran your fingers down the spines of the books on the shelf. kaeya, on the other hand, let you do all the work as he stood there with a hand on his hip. you let out a sound of exclamation when you finally found what you were looking for.
cute, kaeya thought to himself while you flipped through the pages.
"yup! this should the one," you chirped as you handed the book to kaeya, not even reacting when your hand accidentally brushed against his, "it's not often that miss lisa needs this book... tell her to stay safe for me please!"
"will do," he replied, "thanks for your help, uhh..."
"y/n! i'm also a knight of favonius but i'm also lisa's assistant so i don't really see the light of day much. she makes me work here until 2 in the morning and doesn't let me see my family."
"oh..."
"kidding! but i know about you of course, sir kaeya."
kaeya raised an eyebrow and leaned against the bookshelf. "sir kaeya? i think people should call me that more often."
you stared at him, and kaeya cleared his throat.
"i am grateful for your help anyway, y/n."
you gave him a bright smile. "no problem! that's what a librarian's assistant is for after all. hope you come again soon!"
kaeya waved goodbye with lisa's book in his hand as your last sentence echoed in his head. he didn't really want to come to the library, but maybe he would come again just to see that lovely assistant of lisa's. (what kaeya didn't know was that you said that to everyone who entered the library so there wasn't any deeper wish behind it.) but first he had to get this to lisa since he didn't want to get zapped by her again.
"did you find my book?" lisa asked exasperatedly once kaeya finally came out the doors of the headquarters.
kaeya tossed it to her and lisa snatched it from the air. "yes, and your assistant told me to tell you to stay safe. why did you never tell me you had an assistant?"
"oh that cutie?" lisa laughed at kaeya's offended expression. "why would i? are you upset that you didn't get to meet them earlier? not that i would ever let you lay your dirty paws on my darling y/n."
"no," he responded coolly, "i just thought we were friends."
lisa started walking down the steps. "let's just get this over with first and maybe i'll enlighten you with some more information about y/n. how does that sound, kaeya?"
"fine," he pouted.
but he listened very intently when lisa told him more about you.
to be continued...?
