kaeya had been pacing outside of the library for the past ten minutes. he had felt so confident that morning that he would waltz into the library and become a bit closer with you, but now that the time had come, he was starting to doubt himself. once he went in there, what would he do? he wasn't actually expecting to get a book from there and he was only going in there to talk with you a bit. what would he even talk about with a librarian's assistant? he knew absolutely nothing about literature.

snap out if it, kaeya reprimanded himself, just act like you normally would.

with a newfound strength, kaeya walked into the library, acting as if he was looking for a nice book to read. as he walked through the maze of library shelves, he kept an eye out for you. he eventually spotted you putting books back on the shelf, precariously leaning on a ladder. based on the way you were stretching over and standing on the very edge of the ladder, kaeya knew exactly what was about to happen.

as you lost your footing on the ladder and was about to fall to the floor, kaeya swooped in and caught you in his arms. you were easier for him to carry than he expected and you were so nice and warm, he could honestly hold you like this for hours. although the books were now in questionable condition after they all fell onto the floor, he was glad that it was the books and not you.

"oh! is that you, sir kaeya?" you looked up at him, smiling as if you hadn't nearly gotten concussed.

he let you down and started helping you pick up the books.

"not expecting me to be your savior, were you?" he joked as he stacked up the books onto a neat pile.

you tried to grab the pile of books from kaeya, and he promptly held it out of reach.

"no, and i'm very grateful that you saved me, but i need to put these books back," you said as you struggled to grab them.

kaeya chuckled. "clearly, you need some help if you're not going to keep yourself safe while doing it. so let me take care of you a little, alright?"

you grumbled something about independence and not needing him, but you still let kaeya help to reach the taller shelves. meanwhile, kaeya was as giddy as ever to be able to be this close to you. he was starting to understand why lisa had hired you, because you worked in such a swift and organized manner. you knew where every book's home was and you were meticulous about how it was placed. and you didn't hesitate to lightly scold kaeya if he accidentally placed a book upside down or in the wrong spot.

when the two of you were finally finished, you looked at kaeya.

"that reminds me, did you need something from the library? were you looking for a book?"

actually, i was looking for you, he wanted to say, but he needed to take this slow and choose his words carefully.

"actually, i was hoping that you could recommend me something," he instead replied innocently.

you tapped your chin, deep in thought. "a book for sir kaeya? hmm... oh! how about a book about the history of mondstadt's wine? does that interest you?"

mondstadt's wine? definitely. a book about history? not so much.

"yes, that sounds lovely," he purred.

you smiled, clearly satisfied that you had found something perfect for him, and kaeya felt bad since he knew he probably was not going to read it at all. in a few days, it would probably be underneath a bed or in some other obscure place and he'd completely forget about it. however, he graciously took the book and you led him to a table where he could read it.

"if you need any help, please let me know, sir kaeya," you said and then you were off to organize some more books on the table right in front of him.

he cracked open the book and started reading the first few words, but he was soon distracted by you. he couldn't help himself watch you work. he would peer over the edge of his book when you weren't looking, and the moment you were facing him, he would whip his head back down and act as if he was deep in the book. if you had looked any more carefully, you would have seen that he hadn't even gotten past the first page.

kaeya couldn't believe how carefully he was acting. normally, he would be more outright and open with his flirting, but now he was acting so cautious so he wouldn't ruin his chance with you. not to mention his normal tactics didn't seem to work as effectively as he hoped. he sighed. if diluc saw how he was right now, he would probably say he was acting like a young boy in love trying not to scare his little crush away.

unfortunately for kaeya, the library eventually had to close for the night and you shooed him out saying that you'd get in trouble with lisa if you kept visitors past the normal hours. if it had not been for the way you seemed genuinely worried, he would have insisted that you let him stay a bit longer. you sent him off by saying that you hoped he'd come again soon and with an adorable smile that left kaeya clutching his heart the moment he was out of your sight.

kaeya wasn't much of a reader, but maybe he'd visit the library a bit more if it meant seeing you.

◦ kaeya ended up becoming a fan of the book you gave him after he properly read it

◦ if you ever went on long book rants, kaeya would "listen" (he's probably just staring at you lovingly again and not really listening)

◦ he goes to the library whenever he can just to watch you work or to help out

◦ kaeya was really nervous to ask you out on a date because he wasn't sure if you liked him :((

◦ lisa's happy that you're with someone but not that happy that it's kaeya

◦ she gave him a bit of a "talk" (threats) of sorts

◦ kaeya still doesn't love books that much but he loves you :))
