destiny | albedo x reader

albedo doesn't know when it started.

perhaps it was when he first met you. he remembers everything so clearly. the way the sun set the sky ablaze in hues of crimson and violet. the way the breeze played with your hat, threatening to blow it away. the way you smelled of smoke and cecilias. the way your hands were warm as your fingers met while you handed him dust of azoth. the way you spoke so softly when explaining your discoveries to him.

you weren't an alchemist. you were an adventurer. but you had still chosen to give him the dust of azoth personally when you could have asked someone else to do it. you didn't even have to give him such a precious material, but you told him that you had some left over and wanted to give it to the chief alchemist. albedo remembers that you weren't even a part of an official committee yet such as the adventurer's guild, but you had accomplished so much at a young age.

if it didn't start then, then maybe it started a few months later, when albedo invited you to stay over for the first time. it was a cold night in dragonspine, and albedo wanted you to stay for a while. you had spent dawn til' dusk accompanying albedo to study scarlet quartz and ancient rime and by the time the two of you had finished gathering information, night had taken over. albedo remembers how you started to shiver while he took you to his campsite.

even though your hands were shaking, you still offered to cook dinner. you made a delicious bowl of calla lily seafood soup that left the two of you warmed to the core. for the rest of the night, you chatted with him about some new discoveries while he listened intently. as midnight came around, you fought to stay awake, but you lost and albedo carried you to a mat inside of his tent before falling asleep on his own. albedo remembers how he woke up before you did and found himself in an odd position. his arms were wrapped around your torso and you were curled up against him. he woke you up gently and the two of you went back to mondstadt before the sun rose.

at that time, you were a member of the adventurer's guild and you were training to become a knight of favonius. you begged for albedo to help you with combat and he reluctantly helped you. in exchange, he would ask you if you could watch over klee while he did experiments in his lab.

surprisingly, or perhaps unsurprisingly, you and klee got along together very well. you would help her develop some of her bombs and she would follow you around while you gathered materials for commissions. however, you did not hesitate to reprimand her if she was misbehaving and albedo appreciated that. and at night, when it was klee's bedtime, you would tell her a story of the (exaggerated) adventures you went on, leaving her with a smile as she drifted off into her dreams.

if it wasn't then that made albedo start to feel it, then maybe it was just a few months ago. at that time, you were a part of the cavalry company and varka was the grandmaster of the knights of favonius. you had just finished feeding the horses and wanted to take a break somewhere breezy. "albedo," you had said, "would you like to accompany me to starsnatch cliff?" of course, albedo agreed and when the two of you got there, the sun was high in the sky. the cecilias danced in the wind and you plucked one from the ground before placing it behind your ear.

albedo was glad that he brought his sketchbook with him. while you were sitting and enjoying the view of mondstadt, albedo was carefully drawing you. he took note of the way your eyes sparkled and how your hair flowed in the wind. the soft smile on your lips that his eyes lingered on for longer than necessary. when he finally finished the drawing, he showed you and indulged in the way your eyes lit up. you gave him compliment after compliment and albedo remembers how the tips of his ears turned pink.

albedo doesn't know when it started.

but lately, his heart has been beating a bit harder whenever you're around and he stops breathing whenever you smile. any physical contact between you leaves him feeling as if he was shocked by electricity. he finds it harder to concentrate when you're watching him. even his dreams are occupied by you. it's unlike anything he's ever experienced. he's never felt this way towards anyone else. he confided in these feelings with alice who laughed and explained that it was love. love? he asked. yes, alice confirmed, love is a bit of a mystery, but one could say it's like destiny. a feeling that you're meant to be with them.

destiny. what an odd thought. it isn't like alchemy where it is something is tested. it isn't like mathematics where there is a definite answer. it is a strange word that he isn't sure he completely understands. are you...destined to be with him? is this the fate that the archons have spun for him?

but if this is the case, then albedo doesn't have much time to tell you.

albedo checks the clock and curses. he packs up his bags and leaves his lab in a rush. varka plans to go on a long expedition, and albedo remembers that you are planning on joining as a member of the cavalry company. but he doesn't know where you are. you could be anywhere in mondstadt. perhaps it was destiny, but he had a feeling he knew where you were.

as he is running to the outskirts of mondstadt, the special memories he holds of you return to the surface.

was it destiny that you had extra dust of azoth that day? was it destiny when you agreed to go to dragonspine with him? was it destiny when you asked him that day if he wanted to go to starsnatch cliff? was every moment he spent with you destined?

albedo has a thought. an odd thought, but a clear one. albedo loves you and he wants you to know.

he picks up his pace and he quickly reaches his destination as the sun lowers into the sky. in the distance, he sees the silhouette of you, sitting on the edge of starsnatch cliff. the wind carries the lighthearted tune that you're humming. the scent of cecilias fill the air. the sky is reminiscent of the day he met you.

albedo takes a seat besides you. there is a comfortable silence, before you break it.

"what's the matter, albedo," you ask without taking your eyes off of the sunset, "although your presence is always welcome, you wouldn't have come here without some purpose."

"you...intend on going with varka, am i correct?" albedo turns to you and you nod.

"perhaps it will give me a chance to explore beyond mondstadt."

albedo hesitates before continuing, "and there isn't anything that would change your mind, is there?"

you turn to look at albedo. "no, it would take some convincing for me to change my mind. why do you ask?"

"i do not wish for you to go with varka on this journey."

albedo takes your silence as a queue to go on.

"for the past week, i have been thinking, and i have come to the conclusion that you should not leave mondstadt. if i am to...lose contact with you, i feel that our relationship would fall apart. and my relationship with you is a bit different than any other relationship i have ever been in."

"what do you mean by that, albedo?"

"i- uh- have my theories, but i am not completely sure..."

albedo feels his cheeks start to warm when he sees you looking at him so intently.

"i...feel that the two of us have a connection. that we are destined to be together. you see, i am fond of you. and i wish to be with you forever. in other words...i am in love with you."

only the sound of rustling cecilias fills the silence between you two.

albedo grimaces. clearly, telling you his true feelings was a mistake. now embarrassed and ashamed, he adds, "if you do not reciprocate those feelings, i fully understand. i-"

but his words are interrupted by soft lips meeting his. albedo freezes. kissing...was usually done between lovers. but you were not-

"if destiny is what brought us together, then i'd be damned if i were to leave you," you say once you break apart from him.

albedo's eyes widen in realization. "so you are not going?"

you nod, the sparkle in your eyes returning. "no, why would i leave the person i love?"

albedo doesn't know when it started, but he knows that it was destiny.

⁀➷ albedo rerun when??? mihoyo, it's been almost a year since he came out and he hasn't had a single rerun :((  anyway, this was kind of inspired by dna because i think the lyrics would really match albedo well. i intend on making this a mini-series on its own. so stick around if you wanna see more albedo x reader.
