"Hello?"

It wasn't until you'd reached the campus parking lot when you decided to call Jungkook, your eyes lingering on the exit of the building while the professor addressed you, his voice sounding from the other end of the line.

You caught your breath.

He had hardly said a word to you since the whole incident, and yet, the mere sound of his voice had your heart beating rapidly without warning.

However, you couldn't help but notice how his words seemed gruffer than usual, which made you hesitate for a swift second as you spoke softly to him in return. "Hey. How are you?"

"Y/N." Jungkook said, a slight shake in his voice... a slight moment of weakness, before
he cleared his throat. "I'm fine. Yourself?"

A faint chuckle managed to escape the back of your throat, though, it was rather obvious that it was forced. "I've had better days."

You heard him sigh.

"Well, I'm rather busy right now, so I'm going to have to-" His remaining words were left unsaid the moment you cut him off, not wanting the conversation to end on such a dull note.

"Where are you?"

Jungkook didn't seem to falter. "I'm still at the campus but I'm just about leave. You... have you been doing all right? You haven't been attending classes at all this week."
His voice was low and rough, nonetheless never losing its slow gentle edge. "Not that
I blame you. Everything must've been very overwhelming for you. After all, it certainly was for me."

A small part of your heart softened upon hearing his evident concern over your
well-being. It felt good to know that he still cared. However, his concern would've had a much greater effect on you if you had heard those words earlier. If he was there for you when you were in need of his comfort, and vice versa.

It was that realization that ultimately made you crack. And so, before you could convince yourself otherwise, you stepped outside of your car.

"We need to talk."

It seemed as though you'd taken him off guard. "Now? I'm at my car but..." He sighed. Immediately after hearing of his exact location, your eyes darted frantically around the parking lot, in search of only his black car among the many that were in your line of sight. "Can it not wait until the weekend?"

His comment had you rather peeved. "You'd rather us wait?" You ran your fingers through your hair, snagging out the tighter coils and feeling through the looser waves, pausing as you caught sight of a familiar figure from afar.

"Yes," Jungkook answered without any sign of hesitation or doubt. "I don't want to have this conversation with you over the phone. I'd much prefer it if we could have it face to face."

"Then, we will." The words were spoken from you before your mind could grasp them, tumbling off of your lips, startling both him and yourself, working to compose your body quickly. "Wait, what do you mean? Can you perhaps make it easier for me and explain what's going on through your head?"

"You've been avoiding me." You allowed the words to escape your throat without realizing, having turned it over in your mind as you waited outside of the building and considered the longer silence.

"I haven't been avoiding you. I've just been a little busy." You managed a forced laugh at his smoothly spoken lie. "Really Jungkook?"

"With the poem submissions! So I think it would be best if we-"

He cut himself off the moment your eyes had met with his from across the parking lot,
and at that instant, you couldn't at all read his expression.
