— 1 year ago."I like you."
Those three words, as simply put as they were, struck you like none other before.
It was a confession... something you've received before, but never one exactly like this. What made it so unique, one may ask?
The fact that it was a confession through which was made by Andrea, who was standing beside from you with her elbows resting on the ledge of the rooftop, her eyes averted else where while the blush on her cheeks rose immensely.
For once in your life, you were at loss for words, rendered speechless— unable to process what was going on. "Andrea..."
Her name came out of your mouth in an involuntarily, dry whisper, something that slipped before you even thought of saying it.Soon, you were addressed by her flustered and panicked tone. "No worries, I know you don't feel the same. After all, I'm well aware that you swing the other way."
You couldn't help the deep furrow that appeared between your brows, the crease that emerged on your forehead upon hearing her sudden admission.
And for a brief second, amongst all the numerous thoughts that bombarded your
mind at that very moment, only one question managed to come to mind. For how long?
A question the lingered off the very tip of your tongue, on the verge of being voiced out. Because you wanted to know just how long she'd been keeping quiet about her feelings, harbouring and enduring what she truly felt inside, and just how hard it was to do so.
"Then for how long..." You trailed off, ultimately deciding against it in the end. "Why did you...?" Your sentence remained unfinished once more, a result of you being mindful of your every word— not wanting, by any means, for her to take things the wrong way.
You weren't trying to question her judgement. You admired her for it, if anything.
In answer, she turned to meet with your eyes.
And that small glance. That few seconds of brief eye contact shared between the both of you, told you enough to know about the sincerity behind her words.
Judging by the mere look on her face...
her feelings, as sudden and unexpected as they were for you, were her true feelings nonetheless. And you were to handle her feelings just as you would've with any other man, despite your differences in sexuality. Because she deserved that, at the very least. She gave a small smile.
"I just wanted you to know how I felt."
But her smile was forced.
Naturally, that made you feel uneasy.
"Anyway, that's all I wanted to say. I'm gonna start heading home now if you'd like to do the same?" She asked, changing the subject and effectively barring you from the topic.
"Oh, um... maybe in a bit."
Her lips parted as she froze for a moment.
Your response revealed something that gave her pause for thought.
And you mentally cursed yourself once you'd figured out what it was.
You turned her down.
Again.
She must've gotten the wrong idea.
She must think you're... disgusted, of her.
That you can't stand the mere presence of
her being, so much so that you couldn't bother heading home with her.
