Grief is an ugly mistress, hard to face the morning after death comes. S.R.

The city of Angels greeted them with some love. People were pointing and whispering as they walked down the ramp to get outside the airport. Larry's paranoia piqued. Fans who snapped pictures of them were given dirty looks by Larry as Gabe walked behind them dragging their luggage on a cart when they arrived at LAX. Larry nudged his twin, "You see this? We will never have any peace here."

Gabe at airport

Laurent took his middle finger pulling down his sunglasses watching the people rushing around the bustling airport. The comment was shrugged off as a part of Larry's new attitude about being famous. Lau's mind was elsewhere.

How in the hell did Richard choose Larry to be his replacement?

When would they have time to fit supervising a counsel of crooked people along with making music?

The three men stood in the California sun at the curb waiting for someone to do something, say something. Larry finally turned to glare at their assistant. The young man's face turned red instantly when he realized they were waiting on him.

"You're our assistant. Don't just fuckin stand there, go get a taxi!" Larry commanded. Gabe dropped the heavy bags on his shoulder running up to the group of taxi's parked at the end of the loading zone. Laurent jerked his neck in reaction to his brother's snippy tone of voice. "Don't talk to him like that!" He fussed at Larry who pretended not to hear him. Laurent wrapped his fingers into the back of his twin's neck. "You haven't even been a boss for a week and you're acting all fucked up, calm down bro."

Larry jerked his head forward to get Lau's hand off him. "Leave me alone! If I'm not yelling at him, I'll be yelling at you," Larry responded rolling his eyes in annoyance. The people passing by turned around watching them. "What the fuck you lookin at?" He screamed at them too. Laurent placed both palms up in defeat. The onlookers scowled at them until Gabe came running back.

"There's a taxi up here," he panted. Laurent helped him with some of the luggage, but Larry forged ahead without waiting.

Gabe's sniffling in the background bothered Laurent as they started to unpack at their new home. They had secured a place to stay for a few months while recording their new songs. Everyone's grief hung around waiting for an opportunity to pop out. It should have been a fun affair as much as they all loved to travel, but Gabriel's intermittent crying along with Larry's angry outbursts were making the situation miserable. It felt like nothing would ever be fun again since Ri's death. Laurent walked on eggshells trying not to set his twin off, but things were getting dodgier day by day since their friend died.

Laurent looked out of the window of the 2nd floor down to the pool. It seemed like a good enough place to escape to for a while. He dug into his luggage finding his swim trunks, his music tracks and a towel. Larry didn't acknowledge his presence when we passed him walking thru the living room to the pool area. Music on, he dove into the deep end allowing the coolness to refresh his body. The clouds were a smoggy haze of pink blurs above him. "Fucking LA," he sighed thinking of Ri.
