TW: Conversion therapy, abuse, implied sexual assault.
Welcome to another part! I hope you're all enjoying this and I really appreciate the comments and likes on the previous parts. You guys are the best.
Over the next 3-4 weeks Cheryl learns where she is and works on a plan to get to Toni.
---
The soft knock on her door startled Cheryl from her gaze out of the window. She turned her head, watching the door open, allowing a short woman to walk through with clothing in her hands.
"Hi, Cheryl. My name is Margie. I'm a housekeeper here. I brought you some fresh clothes to change into." Cheryl watched as she set the clothing on the bed.
"Where am I?" Cheryl quietly asked. Her throat was sore and dry.
Margie seemed to look anywhere but at Cheryl. "Living Hope. A group home for adults. Lunch is in twenty minutes. I suggest you get changed."
Cheryl was about to ask her to be more specific, but Margie left quickly, shutting the door behind her. She looked down at the clothes the woman had brought and held them up. It was a simple pair of tan scrubs and a pair of navy slip-on shoes.
Surely this was actually a prison.
She reached up to briefly fiddle with her necklace between her fingers. She needed to find out where she was and to get to Toni. This place seemed to be much nicer than the Sisters. Maybe she had a chance.
Toni was all that she could think about. It helped to avoid the dark thoughts that crept in through the cracks of her mind. Thinking of Toni helped her to fall asleep when all she could think about was the electricity flooding her body. Toni helped ease her mind after she woke up from a terrible nightmare - but then again, her life was a nightmare.
Cheryl was dressed quickly and tossed her old clothes into a hamper in the corner of the room. She pulled on the door handle, finding that it was unlocked. The doors at the Sisters were always locked until someone came into her room.
She quietly opened it, not sure if she was even allowed to. What she saw surprised her. People who were dressed like her were walking around freely. Some were in red or blue scrubs, but they were all interacting with each other.
Cheryl stepped out of her room and followed two boys that were walking down the hallway. She spotted a sign hanging from the ceiling that said cafeteria. As she walked, she noticed posters up on the walls.
Some were inspirational quotes that you might see in a school, such as 'your only limit is your mind' and 'follow your heart'.
She thought this was odd. If this was a place participating in conversion therapy, why were there quotes on the walls about being your true self?
Toni was the only thing that lived in Cheryl's heart and mind.
Cheryl finally arrived at the cafeteria. There were multiple tables around the room and a line forming. She continued to follow the two boys and stood in line. She was exhausted and her legs felt like jello, but she wasn't passing up food. Cheryl wasn't sure when had eaten last and she had lost weight while with the Sisters.
"Hey, you're new here, right?" One of the boys asked. He had shoulder length blonde hair and was quite skinny. Practically a walking skeleton.
Cheryl nodded.
"I'm Chic, and this is Charles." He pointed to the boy next to him who was a bit taller and more muscular with short blonde hair. "You can sit with us if you'd like."
