It was Toni's second Mother's Day and she thought everyone forgot about her again. That was until Cheryl showed up at her door and invites her to the zoo.
---
Hello! I wanted to do a cute little one shot for Mother's Day, and honestly, Toni deserves it.
----------
It was her second Mother's Day, and if Toni was being honest, she was incredibly lonely. It was much like her first, in that matter. The only person who wished her a good day was Principal Weatherbee when she had gone to school that day to get some paperwork done. Oh, and Leroy, the janitor.
As Toni reminisced about last year's Mother's Day, she remembered the bouquet of flowers she had found on her desk. A beautiful mix of purples, pink and blues and the note that was attached.
Dearest Toni,
I'm sorry I didn't have it in me to drop these off in person - you deserve better. I wish you the happiest of Mother's Days. Give your beautiful boy a hug for me.
Love Always,
Cheryl xoxo
But it seems that Cheryl had forgotten about her this year.
Toni was home alone while Fangs was off somewhere, doing something she didn't care enough about. Probably drinking himself to death like he had threatened to do over the last few weeks, or maybe he's cruising the truck stops in the surrounding towns. She hadn't seen him in a few days.
She didn't really care, as long as he wasn't here around her son.
Her son.
Fangs could no longer call himself a father. Not after the gun incident or the phone conversation she found out about recently.
Toni has cried herself to sleep for weeks. Out of anger or sadness, she isn't sure. Maybe loneliness.
Hell, Anthony wasn't even here with her. He was still with Kevin because of this stupid fucking trial. Toni isn't even sure how, in regards to the law, Kevin had Anthony, but she had been served temporary custody papers by a police officer just days ago.
She could only see Anthony with another adult present.
-
Toni wasn't sure how long she had been asleep on her couch for when she heard a knock on her door. Long enough that she had dried drool on her cheek and her hair was a mess, when she caught her reflection in the glass of a photo frame.
She tried to tame her a little and get the crust off of her face before opening the door.
Toni could have cried right then and there. She did cry, actually, but if she tells you this story in the coming years, she'll deny it.
Cheryl was standing on the other side of her door with a sad smile on her face. She had Anthony's diaper bag slung over one shoulder and the little boy on her hip.
"Mama!" Baby Anthony clapped before reaching for his mother.
"Hi, baby!" It probably would have come out as more of a squeal if there weren't tears in her eyes. "Cheryl, what are you doing here?" She asked after her son was in her arms and she kissed his forehead.
"Well, I was driving around and saw Kevin at the park with a stroller. Naturally, I pulled over to talk to him and told him how important it was that this sweet babe spends Mother's Day with his mother. After a few choice words, there was no argument, so here we are."
