Tangs is a thing, don't come at me.

---

Toni should be happy. Right? She's a new mother and she's in a new relationship with her best friend and the father of her child.

Never in her life did she see this coming, but here she is. She's currently laying in bed, enjoying the quiet time before little Anthony wakes up. Fangs is laying next to her with one arm across her waist and his head on her chest.

Her alarm still hasn't gone off and she has no idea what time it is. The only thing illuminating the room is a little light on the mobile hanging above Anthony's crib that's displaying moving stars across the ceiling.

She stares at them, wondering how this became her life.

She loves Fangs, she does. But...there's something missing - or rather, someone.

And Toni Topaz is too damn stubborn to admit her feelings for her ex girlfriend. Fangs is safe and he's her baby's father, so why not? She's not about to tear this family apart.

A family she has always wanted.

A family she could have had with Cheryl.

Toni knows that the redhead isn't in a good place right now, and she hasn't been in a long time. Cheryl had made so much progress during their senior year, but she seemed to spiral after their surprise break up.

She had kept in contact with Alice over the years, who would keep her updated on the town, the twins and Cheryl.

Toni missed the days when she seemed to smile more. Of course, her baby boy made her incredibly happy, but she was so caught up in all of the small things. She was adamant to handle most things alone, especially her own feelings. So cautious and exhausted.

She should have listened to the things that her heart said.

A stray tear ran down the side of her face.

What the fuck was she doing?

What had she gotten herself into?

Toni should be happy. Right?

"So, how are things going with Cheryl?" Toni had asked Britta during their weekly check in. She had been staying with Cheryl for the last month.

"Everything is great," the young redhead exclaimed with a bright smile. "I've been staying in shape for football by working in her mines."

If Toni had been drinking something, she would have spat it out. Instead, a look of surprise fell over her face. "The mines? The ones that recently collapsed?"

Britta shook her head. “No, Hiram Lodge planted a bomb that made the mine collapse. That wasn’t Miss Blossom’s fault.”

“True, but I’m sure they’re unstable.” Toni jotted something down in her notebook. “I'll make sure to bring that up to her.”

“There’s no need, Miss Topaz. Miss Blossom is an adult and perfectly capable of caring for me. I have my own room, I have food and water, a roof over my head and she cares about me.”

Toni knew all of that to be true. She knew of the love that the older redhead had for the people that she cared for. How she would do anything for them. How she would do anything for little Toni Topaz.

Toni sighed and looked at the picture of her and Anthony that sat on her desk. She wished she could quit overthinking her life. For a moment, Toni believed that happiness was out of her reach. Cheryl had hurt her with their break up, and if Toni was being honest, she wasn’t over it. But no matter how she looked at her situation, she realized that the thing, or person, that hurts you, also helps you get to your dreams.
