"What? Where? What did she say?"
"Such a lucky girl"
"I need to see this for myself"
"Wait, let's go together"
"You mean he did that publicly"
"I envy her a little"
"What about Xiao Zhan?"Xiao Zhan was pulled out of his daze when his name was mentioned. It was time for their lunch break, they were already half way through the school day.
After the previous day, he and Yibo hadn't spoken about what happened. He didn't call him after he left, thinking he needed some time. In the morning, Yibo waited for him to walk to school together as usual but on the way, no words were exchanged between both boys.
Even in class, Yibo hardly said anything to him. When he tried to make small talk, he was met with monosyllabic answers. Immediately the bell rang for break, Yibo ran out of the class, without pulling Xiao Zhan along as he usually did.
Xiao Zhan could tell the reason for this attitude and that was what made him worry the most. Did Yibo regret it? He felt they had something good going on.
When his name was called, he raised his head and met with the pitiful look of his classmates. One particularly chatty girl spoke to him. "No wonder you've been down all day. Your best friend is going after the girl that the whole school ships you with, you must feel terrible".
"..."
Yibo? Yang Zi? What was going on now?
Seeing his lack of response, people started to pay less attention to him. Some people felt Yang Zi was lucky. The two hottest guys in school were hers... Xiao Zhan; her friend and Wang Yibo; her admirer, maybe boyfriend in the near future.
Others felt Zhan and Yibo might have gotten into a rift. They had been acting strange towards each other all day. At first, no one paid it any heed but soon they started to speculate. Xiao Zhan intended to go to the school lunch café to get something to eat but he had lost his appetite. Besides, he heard the 'proposal' took place there, he never wanted to step foot in that place again.
Not long after, Yibo came into class with a lunch pack and gave it to Xiao Zhan. "I noticed you didn't come for lunch so I brought you this from the cafeteria".
"..."
How could he casually talk about other things like yesterday didn't happen? He slept, woke up and decided to get himself a girlfriend? What about them? Was he going to say he felt nothing for Zhan or was he going to claim he was in a bad mood hence their entanglement? If his mother hadn't interrupted them, he was sure a lot more would have happened, would he have also pushed him aside even if they had gone all the way?
"A-Zhan...I...", Yibo cleared his throat and spoke. "I might be getting a girlfriend soon".
Yibo didn't know why he felt this way but telling Xiao Zhan about Yang Zi didn't sound as simple as he thought it would.
"Is that so? Goodluck then, I'm rooting for you", was the response he got from Xiao Zhan.
...
At the end of the school day, Xiao Zhan helped Yibo to pack his bags out of habit. They both walked back home the same way they came in the morning; in silence.
"A-Zhan, about yesterday, I've been thinking of how to talk to you". Xiao Zhan was deep in thought. He wanted to have a talk with Yibo. He already knew he was going to dislike the outcome of whatever they were going to talk about but he knew it was necessary.
"I came on to you, I shouldn't have done that. I'm sorry. Please don't be upset".
"...", Xiao Zhan was lost for what to say.
