I got up and looked at my watch: "Oh no, it's already Friday!" I groaned.
I was so tired and had no desire to get up and I would like to go back to sleep for hours. I felt my unwashed face. A habit of mine.
>>Tom get up!<< Shouted my mum, who had been married to her second husband for thirteen years and was celebrating her wedding anniversary today. I didn't know what happened to my first father. No, I didn't even know who fathered me. My mum never wanted to tell me, at least not until I was eighteen.I had a right to know because I was in it. Every day I played around with the idea of who it could be. Maybe the father of one of my friends, or maybe she was having an affair and then accidentally got pregnant by him. With the chaos, I wouldn't even be surprised if I were adopted.
I'd had it on my mind for years to find out, but Mum kept the secret very well. Often times I would even sneak into their room looking for clues, but all I found was Mum's lingerie and Dad's condoms.
My mother worked as a doctor in the emergency room. She worked full time, which was not common for a woman in society. My father was a writer who wrote books about parenting and children. Something only old people read. However, he was often at home, but he just sat around at the computer for eight hours at a time. Better this way. Nobody wanted to feel his bad mood.
I looked at myself in the mirror. My dark brown hair was really messy and my eyelids were so heavy that I could feel their weight on my face. I made my way down the brown wooden stairs and had breakfast with my sister Millie.
>>Today is Tim and Bella's Helloween party.<<, she remarked and winked at me with a smile
>>Yeah.<<.
Millie was my half-sister, three years my junior. She was very clumsy, but at the same time very arrogant, thanks to my father. She wanted to provoke me in any way that could provoke someone. After breakfast, I wrapped my body in comfortable clothes, suitable for the weather, and then went to school.
The day today seemed very cold, but at least sunny. I was grateful that it was at least light, otherwise I would have been tired and sluggish. All day long.
I ran to Mick and Mandy my best friends since elementary school. They would analyze my behavior down to the smallest detail. They were just the coolest. At every school everyone had their own place, I'll say. There were the popular ones, the losers, and so on. The three of us were normal. I felt a bit bad because they both mentioned that they could be very popular if they weren't friends with me. At least that's what Tim would have meant to them, but they refused. We liked to gossip and spy on other students and teachers and watch films together.
Mick was wearing blue jeans and a gray jacket today. His light blonde hair was messy as always and you could see the dark circles clearly. His thin lips were very dry from the cold and he looked like it took him 10 minutes to "get ready". Mandy, however, wore a yellow dress with black jeans and boots today. She wore a pink lip gloss that made her lips a bit fuller, blush and concealer.
Her light brown hair came down to her chin and her eyebrows were plucked, I noticed. We were considered uncool, but also a bit normal because I was Tim's greatest archenemy (more on that later) and didn't know the reason for it, and my friends were uncool because they hung out with me. That meant we were never invited to any parties.
Mick and Allie, the prettiest girl in school, already knew each other because his mother and her aunt were at the same school and were friends. Mick and Allie were very good friends for a while, but they parted ways after Allie became popular and bitchy. She took advantage of him all the time and Mick and I argued after Allie left him five years ago because he was hanging out with me and I, according to Tim, was uncool. Yes, Mick was always a bit into her, but he never admitted it.
>>Hey Tom!<<, Mandy greeted me with a big smile. Her gray eyes shone with excitement. She hugged me and I felt the joy from her body language. >> Folks, this year we're throwing the best party ever. Just the three of us! <<
>>Today the identity crisis starts again.<<, Mick stated with shock. Mandy gave a laugh in response.
The identity crisis, as my friends and I called it, was a period when some students were acting strangely. They suddenly made other friends, did things they would never do, and had other hobbies for ... I don't know ... two or three weeks. After that, they pretended it never happened that way. I didn't know anyone personally who had such a phase, but word got around and you heard about it and it always happened in the same month: November.
The students talked about it more and everything was somehow different at the time. It was also the time when my friendship with Mick and Mandy was the best. There was always something to gossip about, but that was the second thing we really wanted to find out: where did this identity crisis come from, why have it changed?
Mick tapped me: >>Earth to Tom!<<
As soon as the most beautiful girl in the world walked past me, my eyes were on her. I was talking about Claire Williams. She was about a head shorter than me, had black, wavy hair, sea-blue eyes, full lips and a wonderful smile. She was about the same age as me and was incredibly cute. We spoke to each other a few times, but it was only because of homework or other school issues.
I adored her slightly higher voice. She sounded wonderful and tender, and only her size. Mick was into tall women like Allie, and I wanted a 5'3 tall, sweet girl.
I would kill to touch her lips once Her friend Riley tapped it and pointed her head at me. Claire smiled broadly and waved to me. Riley said something to Claire and went into the school building. Most likely she had to go to the bathroom. My girl took a letter out of her jacket pocket and looked at it confusedly.
>>Earth to Tom.<<, Mandy whispered to me and lured me out of my thoughts. The doorbell rang and all the students went back to class. The rooms were filled and I had to walk past crowds, losing sight of my friends. When I almost got there, Tim bumped into me.
I felt a sting on my shoulder. The more painful it got, the angrier I got.
>>Watch out, Tom, you will see what happens.<<, he said.
Tim was an arrogant idiot who felt insane. He had an open relationship with Bella, a.k.a the school bitch, and his best friend was Leo the heartbreaker.Tim was known for his classic threats like this one, for throwing a party every week and for his stupid grin. He had dark brown hair, full lips, broad shoulders and brown eyes. He looked like a model and would be a good match with Allie.

The class passed like in slow motion and I was glad that I could leave this room for the time being.
Later Mick, Mandy and I were at home and wanted to bake chocolate muffins for the party. I honestly found it better to party with close friends than with a hundred people. I was lucky because, as I already mentioned, it was my parents' wedding anniversary today and for once they ate in a fancy, expensive restaurant.
It was six o'clock and the three of us were walking around. We walked past Tim's villa, where you could really hear a crash. But I only saw colors and only heard the music a little. I couldn't see people in there. Just the shadows of people partying. My friends' dream was once to enter the chic villa, but I took it away from them. They had no idea what guilt I had to carry with me every time a party was going on at Tim's.
