Chapter Seven: late-night confession.

Sunny talked to his mom for what felt like all day, but yet in the end it was only 8:54 pm. They had what Mari would've called 'a mother-son bonding day!!' Thinking about that made Sunny grin a bit as he pulled out his phone and looked at Kel's number. He quietly looked at it for a while. The raven-haired boy decided with his mother that day that he'd stop being so scared of what could happen. He was going to take his chance. It was 8:56 now. Sunny would be brainstorming ways to say it but suddenly...Kel was typing?? It was so sudden it almost scared Sunny as he anxiously looked down at his phone. But as soon as Kel started typing he had stopped. It would make him anxious but he was going to do it. 8:57 and he's ready

[SunshineJams started messaging BasketballKel]

SJ: Hello Kel! I was wondering if I could talk to you about something?
BK: yeah!! i gotta taljr to you too thoufg!!
BK: *talk
BK: *though
SJ: Mhm!! Okay so, I think
SJ: Dang it, I pressed send too early, one moment.
BK: yep! take your time!
SJ: Okay so Kel.
SJ: I love you okay? We've been best buds for ages even though I kinda...yeah. But I gotta tell you something. And I'm really sorry if it changes the way you think about me.
SJ: One second, Mom wants me to help with Mewo. I'll be right back.
BK: okay!! i wanna say something too

[BasketballKel started typing and sent something, but then deleted the message.]

SJ: Back, you said something? 
BK: yeah uhh gimmed a seovd. im sorry if i delete it again
SJ: No it's okay! I'll just let you go first.
BK: okay so sunny i know we havent been able to talk as much as we used to but we talk a lot more now. and i just wanna say, i really like you. i know its sudden but would you like to go out with me?

Sunny stared at his phone, bright red. He never would've suspected this happening. Kel, the person he had taken the last few months to realize he's fallen for...Likes him the same way? Sunny can't believe it at all for a moment. All his mind is saying is 'really? how could he like a lousy loser like me' or 'It's all for pity, He doesn't like you.' all that scares Sunny so bad. He just wants this to go well. He doesn't want any of this to be a lie. As much as those thoughts push him down he tries not to think about it.

SJ: Woah.
BK: woah?
SJ: Not a bad woah. Yes. I'll go out with you."
BK: WOAH. 

Sunny just stupidly grinned at his phone, he couldn't help but tear up a bit. It's all too perfect, yet he knows's real. After a moment he felt as someone was patting his head. But no one was there when he turned around, he felt as someone was proud of him for being truthful with his feelings. So he smiled but still, no one was there. After a while, he looked back at his phone 

BK: are you free? i kinda wanna see you now
BK: i may have seen you this morning but
BK: i miss you
BK: sunny?
SJ: Yeah sorry. I am free. You can come over here if you'd like, I miss you too <3
BK: HABDBABABABA DHADH RIGHT OVER.

Sunny laughed a bit. Almost nervous. It's all so sudden and Kel wants to see him. He quickly got up and walked to his mom who was in the kitchen and explained all that happened. She just looked at him and smiled "Must be chance. If he'd like he can stay over for dinner and-" Before she could finish there was a knock at the door. "Oh, seems as he's here. But just. Be yourself Sunny. I believe in you, you can do this." she finished as she smiled at her son. Sunny smiled right back and gave her a small thumbs up. So he started to the door, and as he opened it he was embraced in a hug. He looked up and it was Kel.

"Sunny, you don't know how happy I am. I've been waiting to say that since we were kids and-" Kel just squeezed Sunny closer to him with a huge grin on his face. Sunny just smiled right back at Kel. "Yeah...It's crazy but for once I'm thinking...Maybe it'll turn out okay." Sunny responded after a moment. Kel just nodded, but Sunny knew that he really really really understood. The boys stood like that for a while, almost frozen like an old statue. But suddenly Sunny's mom walked in and smiled at the boys. "Dinners ready if you two are ready, you're welcome to stay the night as well Kel." Almost suddenly, Kel replied with "Sure! Thank you so much." He just grinned and quietly grabbed Sunny's hand. 

Kel had practically dragged Sunny into the kitchen. "What did your mom make Sunny?" Kel asked, yet Sunny's mom responded instead "Spaghetti! And I can make you boy's some chocolate chip cookies if you want!" With those words, Kel practically lit up like a candle "I'd love that! Thank you so much!!" He smiled and sat down at the table, looking up at Sunny like he needed something, so Sunny sat down next to Kel. The raven-haired boy smiled at the brown-haired boy as he slid his hand down to the other boy's hand. They awkwardly sat there both bright red for a moment, but then they just ate dinner and talked to Sunny's mom. Despite not being the only ones there they felt very comfortable and happy with everything. Happy with each other and happy with someone they knew really cared. Sunny was right. Maybe it'll turn out okay. 

The boys and Sunny ate dinner and after they went out back to the old treehouse while cookies were being made. Sunny sat in a corner with Kel wrapped around him, just watching the same stars he'd been watching out of his window for the last four years. After a while of the sweet science, Sunny spoke up "One day I'd like to run away from here. Get away from what I caused. I'd like to learn to play the piano, I want to...I want to start new and keep her music alive. See some new stars, these ones feel like they're always the same ones over and over and over again." Sunny sighed and looked at Kel. So Kel just nodded "When you do, I'll go with you. Be there every step of the way." He said with a smile. The boys just smiled at each other until their faces felt sore, and until Sunny's mom called them in for cookies.

So they walked in and sat on the couch with each other and the cookies. Sunny's mom set some glasses of milk on the coffee table and looked at the boys. "You two know the rules, be good. You can rent a movie or go out. Just make sure you tell me if you do go out this late. I'll be in my room working, okay?" She asked them. Sunny just nodded and Kel looked up at her "Yeah! Will do! Thank you so much for letting me stay over!" Kel said, not a hint of disrespect for her in his voice. Sunny's mom had always liked that about him. She smiled and walked off to her room to start work.

The boys decided to rent a movie then go on a walk after. They playfully argued about it for a while but ended up picking some Halloween romcom. The two boys cuddled up on the couch with the cookies and the movie on. It's nearly midnight when they finish the movie but they still wanna take a walk. The colder fall air somewhat calls for them. Kel made sure Sunny's mom knew where they were going before they went outside and started walking. 

Hand in hand they just walked and talked. "Uh Sunny, I have a basketball game next week and I was uh- Wondering if you'd like to go and maybe we can do something after?" Kel asked as he stopped and looked at sunny. The raven-haired boy just looked and smiled "Yeah! I'd love to!" Kel smiled right back at him before running with Sunny's hand still in his. Where was he taking Sunny??

They ran for what seemed like hours. When they stopped they were about a mile or two away from Sunny's house, in the middle of a wooded area. There was a blanket laying there and just above them was a perfect view of the stars. New ones. More stars, brighter than Sunny had ever seen. Kel layed down on the blanket and patted the area next to him, So Sunny layed down too. Kel looked over at him "This is where I like to go when things feel out of place or just unpleasant...I always swore to myself the second I felt like my life was turning around I would take a special someone here with me and..well here we are. Right here." Kel said with a small laugh. Sunny just looked at him and teared up a little "I'm glad I'm here with you. I'm glad you told me what you did tonight and I'm glad to be with you like this, it feels like this is what it should've been from the start." The raven-haired boy said. "It really does," Kel added as he wrapped an arm around Sunny. 

The boys just sat there quietly, with no words yet they understood every bit of what they felt. They couldn't feel any happier than with each other in their arms. And they knew that this may not last forever. But from then on out they would treat it like it. They would treat it like the best thing on earth, because right now for them, that's all it was.
