I snapped my eyes open—and immediately regretted it. Bright light assaulted my vision, and a sharp pain shot through my skull like a bolt of lightning. "Ugh, bad idea," I groaned, pressing the heel of my palm to my forehead as if that would magically fix the headache brewing behind my eyes.
I pushed myself into a sitting position, my body stiff and aching as if I had just gone ten rounds with a heavyweight champion. Blinking away the disorientation, I surveyed my surroundings. An alleyway. A grimy, abandoned alleyway with garbage bags strewn about and graffiti scrawled across the walls. Well, at least it's not a lava pit, I thought dryly. Small victories.
I staggered to my feet, using the nearby brick wall for support. The dizziness was still lingering, and my legs felt like jelly. I took a few shaky steps forward, trying to shake the fog from my mind. Where the hell am I? Panic started to bubble in my chest when I noticed something far more unsettling than the dumpster aesthetic of my new location—none of the boys were anywhere to be seen.
Where are they? My mind raced. What if they ended up in a different part of the planet? What if they got sucked into some alternate dimension and I'm stuck here alone? What if they're all—
"Psst!"
I froze mid-thought, my heart nearly leaping out of my chest. Someone was hissing at me from the shadows. My eyes darted to the sides, scanning the alley. And then, I spotted him—peeking from behind a garbage bin like a raccoon caught in the act—Yoongi.
Oh, thank god.
Relief washed over me, and I practically jogged over to him. He looked just as rough as I felt—his hair was a mess, and his clothes were covered in dirt. He glanced up, relief mirroring in his eyes as he stood up, his expression softening the second he saw me.
"Thank God, you're okay," Yoongi muttered, immediately stepping closer and cupping my face in his hands, inspecting me like a worried parent checking for scrapes after a fall. His touch was gentle, but his eyes were sharp as they scanned my face.
"I'm fine, I'm fine," I assured him, though I wasn't entirely sure that was true. My head was still pounding, but seeing him alive was enough to push the pain to the back of my mind. "Are you okay?"
Yoongi nodded, his hands dropping to my shoulders as he took a step back, giving me one last once-over. "Yeah, I'm fine."
Yoongi wasn't exactly the type to wear his emotions on his sleeve, at least not to people outside of our tight-knit circle. To others, he often came across as cold or harsh, like someone who didn't care. But we all knew the truth. Beneath that tough exterior, Yoongi cared more than anyone. He just wasn't great at showing it. Yet, moments like this—when he was checking to make sure I wasn't broken or bleeding—said more than any words ever could.
I smirked, trying to lighten the mood. "You look like you just crawled out of a trash heap."
Yoongi rolled his eyes, but the corner of his lips twitched up. "Says the person who looks like they just lost a fight with a brick wall."
"Touché," I muttered, running a hand through my hair, which probably looked as bad as I felt. "Any idea where we are?"
"No clue. I woke up here like five minutes ago." He leaned against the wall, arms crossed, his usual laid-back posture returning, though there was still a sharpness in his gaze. "And I haven't seen any of the others."
I sighed, the brief moment of relief fading. "Well, at least we're not alone. That's something."
"Yeah," Yoongi agreed, though his eyes drifted toward the end of the alley. "But we need to find them. Fast. Before something else finds us."
