I inhaled deeply and almost fainted from the lovely overwhelming scent of the food on the table.
"hey Lex can you hand me one of the boxes" Adrian shouted from the doorway and I nodded in response while walking towards the table. Looking through the bags I settled on the one with spicy wings and Chinese fried peanuts.
Well would you look at that.
Smiling to myself I handed it to him and stepped back while watching him. Opening the box, he grabbed the fork and picked up one of the wings and it was like it was all happening in slow motion in front of me.
The wing got closer and closer to his mouth as he looked at the box lazily before his eyes almost popped out of the sockets and he put it back quickly.
Eyeing me suspiciously as I ate my noodles and watched him he handed it back to me, "this has peanuts in it".
I clutched my chest and looked at the box in his hand wearily while batting my eyelashes "oh I must've forgotten to look at the label, let me get you a different one"
"liaaarrrr", my mother sang as she grabbed the box and switched it with the one she was holding.
Adrian took it glaring at me as he bit into his chicken and walked away.
Rolling my eyes I grabbed my box and sat down beside my mother as she typed away furiously on her laptop and turned it away from me.
"mom what are you doing?" raising my eyebrows suggestively I tried to peak over her shoulder but she kept blocking my view, "texting Jason?" lowering my voice I leaned in close "sexting Jason? mom I didn't know you were down like that".
"Get away from me child before I knock you with my phone" she warned waving her phone in my direction violently causing me to slide away from her smiling to myself.
"i'm not texting or sexting anyone" she said and handed me the paper which she had drawn a map on.
"what's this? you practicing cartography or something", Confused, I turned it upside down and tried to look at it from the side before giving up.
Looking at me weirdly she grabbed the paper and flipped over on to the other side and handed it back to me "they weren't random numbers, they were coordinates to some old abandoned warehouse"
I slurped up a fork full of noodles and squinted my eyes as she zoomed in on her laptop screen and showed me that it was indeed an abandoned warehouse that seemed as though it was barely holding itself up.
"soooo" looking between her and the laptop I rested the empty carton box on the table and rubbed my hands together, "when are we doing this?"
"Not tonight we have to make sure that we aren't walking right into a trap that could lead to us all ending up dead" mother said and got up walking around to the other side of the kitchen island and then looked at me smiling.
"plus you have school tomorrow"
"ugh no don't do that I think I'm going to be sick " gagging after the words left her mouth I frowned.
"what's the point of all that if i'm only there two times a week and maybe if I'm bored three " I got up and threw the now empty box in the bin and washed my hands.
"the point is you need to finish school and set yourself on something you want to do" she said looking at me as she ate her noodles.
I opened my mouth to say something but she already knew what was coming "something other than this".
I huffed and grabbed my phone mumbling a goodnight and went to the bathroom to get ready for bed. Inside my head I knew that I couldn't exactly depend on this as a future career that I could tell people about.
