• 𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐔: You feel your soulmate's pain.

Most people think that soulmates are romantic, and that whoever is your soulmate is supposed to be the one you were meant to be with. But that isn't always the case. Because, for Cass and Tim, nothing was romantic.
They were siblings, best friends, through and through. But they were not lovers. They were platonic soulmates. And neither of them would have it any other way.
....

This is what happens when I have writers block on my other stories and I wanted a platonic soulmate AU. So I made one.

TW: Remember in the RR comics when Tim is almost raped? That's mentioned, not heavily, but it's there. This is written from the POV of Cass, when she was coming to save him. With the added bonus of it being a Soulmate AU. Also, abuse to Cass by her father, and neglect from Tim's parents. So, if that triggers you in any way shape or form, please don't read this.

The title is from the song, Heaven Knows, by Five for Fighting

.....

Tell me where the good men go
Before I wash away
Walk me down the old brick road
So I can die where I met you
Hold me like we're going home
Turn your tears to rain
Bury me beautiful
Heaven knows how I loved you
...

The first time Cass felt her soulmate, she was 5 years old. Her soul had been overcome with such a deep feeling of shock, terror, and sadness, that it sent her stumbling back in surprise, breaking her stance and leaving her open for attack.

"You stupid girl!" her father shouted, back handing her across the face.

She didn't flinch. Or cry. That would only bring on more pain.

Instead, she straightened her back and fell into a different fighting stance, rolling her shoulders.

She would get strong. She would do what her father wanted. And then she'd escape.

An ocean and thousands of miles away, young Timothy Drake was watching in horror as the flying Graysons fell to their deaths, leaving a son only a few years older then himself alone. When he felt the invisible hand strike his face, he barely reacted, other then a wince and the hope that his soulmate was okay.

For all of his life, he'd felt the pain his soulmate went through daily. At first, he'd cried, and begged his parents to find them and help them. His parents refused, telling him to stop telling tales. "Your Soulmate can handle themselves, Timothy."

Now, though, he'd gotten used to it. And he hated that fact. And even though he was still a toddler, he promised himself that he'd find his other half and save them from whatever cruel world they lived in.

He'd just have to find them first.

.

It wouldn't be until many years later when the two would finally meet.

.

Tim had been Robin at the time, when he'd first seen her. Cassandra Cain.

Someone he'd later realize was his soulmate.

At the time, he'd assumed his soulmate was dead. When he was 6, all pain suddenly stopped, and didn't resurface ever. No hits, no stings, nothing. It was an abrupt change from the usual throbbing aches.

Tim didn't see any choice but to assume they'd died.

Never in his life was he so happy to be wrong.
