• 𝐓𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐀𝐔: A tattoo that describes your soulmate appears on your skin. It fills with color when you meet them.
....
"Are you sure they aren't dating?" Tim asked, surveying his brother and Roy cuddling together on the couch, talking about explosions in hushed whispers.
Steph groaned, "Yes, I'm sure. I don't understand it, they would be perfect together, and they already act like a couple!"
Tim shook his head, wrapping an arm around her waist.
"You know what this means?" He asked, smirking.
Steph grinned evilly, her smile stretching from ear to ear.
"Absolutely, boyfriend wonder."
"Operation: JayRoy is a go."
…
Whenever someone turns 16, they receive a tattoo. The tattoo links them platonically or romantically as soulmate's and fills with color when you meet them.
Jason never got to meet his soulmate. Never received a tattoo.
He died too soon.
…
When he had come back to life, he'd checked one time for a tattoo. It was between his shoulder blades, and it was by far the most obscure tattoo he'd ever seen.
Two hands, one significantly smaller than the other (a child?) holding tightly onto one another.
What type of clue is that?
Of course Jason would be the one with a tattoo that could literally mean anything. Dick got a computer on his shoulder that turned green when he met Babs. Tim had a purple waffle on his forearm from Steph.
Those tattoos are obvious as hell. But of course he had to get this one.
He hasn't looked at it since.
It's not like it mattered anyway.
Who would want to love him?
…
"Oh for the love of everything holy." Steph groaned, slapping her hand to her face in exasperation.
"How are they so obvious and yet so oblivious?" Tim wondered aloud, watching the two men.
They had both tried to walk into the hallway at the same time, finding themselves stuck staring at each other.
They were so close to kissing and it was absolutely aggravating to watch them awkwardly shimmy about to escape the trap.
This… was going to be harder than they thought.
"It's time to bring in the big guns." Tim decided.
…
Roy didn't much care about a soulmate tattoo. The things just made no sense to him.
Why was the person he was supposed to love the most chosen for him? Why did he not get to choose for himself who he did and didn't love?
He never looked at his tattoo, either. He wanted to fall in love the real way. He wanted nothing to do with soulmate tattoos and their chosen fates.
He made his own future.
(Later, he’d given up on love altogether, after a few months with Jade that ended in flame, but also brought on the thing that kept him going after a long day. Their relationship might have ruined his idea of love, but it brought him Lian, and that, in Roy’s eyes, was worth it. It always will be.)
