She was reminded of the coolness of the mix of sand and dirt. Her warm cheeks sensed it's temperature as she hit the floor. It was the shock of it, the pain all over her body, her body shaking from the inside.
Remembering those firm hands pick her up and throw her around. His face cold with fury, Marco.
"Do you know what I'm going to do to you?" Those words repeated a couple of times letting it sink further into Arya's mind. That helpless feeling almost irreplaceable, ingrained in her memory.
Soon she saw that same black figure, tall, the one she would come to adore. That night she would never forget...
She could hear her words, so faint you could easily miss it but Arya knew... she knew it was her nan...
Those memories seemed quite strong, Arya couldn't shake the coldness of the sand, the darkness of the night. She hated to think about it.
Arya carefully opened up the awning and closing it behind her. She blanked her mind to keep it clear, she didn't want to be distracted.
The night was silent, eerie and cold. She walked alone without another soul, not telling anyone where she was going. Thinking about it in her head, it didn't seem like a good idea. It went against everything she'd ever been taught but if she hadn't got herself into this mess it would have never have happened.
Making her way down the path, faint sounds of insects called out, filling the wide space, it was that quiet.
Leaving her parents and Matt, Arya approached the forest. For the first time ever, the forest gave her chills, cold, sharp chills, rattling through her spine.
She hadn't even checked the time, for all she knew it could be anywhere between 11pm or 3am. All Arya knew was that she promised she'd be there and Arya never broke a promise.
Familiar trees passed by, it was close now.
The spot now in view, there was someone waiting there.Arya ascended it, soon reaching the top.
"Arya" a low voice came out from the darkness, the same figure she'd seen on the hill walked out into the slit of moonlight.
"Robin I-I.." Arya held back the emotions she'd been holding for so long, they all came cascading forward, seeing him stand there.
"I don't know why your here" Robin spoke, his face low to the ground, nearly looking into Arya's eyes.
"I needed to see you, to explain everything and to apologise..." Arya stepped forward.
"I don't think you need to explain yourself, I think I know already" Robin paused.
"What do you mean?"
"I saw you with him, whoever he is!" Arya kept quiet letting Robin finish,"I tried to convince myself it wasn't what I thought it was but seeing another guy kiss you like that...".
Arya sighed in her mind, knowing what he was referring to, he must have seen Matt.
"Robin I know it seems bad, I should have told you, I was going to, I really was... but things changed and Matt showed up and..."
Robin watched her try to explain, he didn't get angry and lash out, no. Instead he stood, almost disappointed, which made Arya feel a whole lot worse than she already did.
"Arya I just wish you had told me, I'm not angry that your seeing someone else but I'm angry because I was fooled into thinking you could be mine, now I see that can't happen".
The two stood apart, not having the courage to look at one another.
"Robin... I'm so sorry, I know it doesn't change anything but I want you to know that if I had the chance to tell you before, I would. I only kept it from you because I didn't want to loose you, but now I have" Arya cleared her throat, watching Robin turn away from her.
He took a deep sigh,"it's too late" the words echoed into her head, her heart beat raised, the realisation that she would never have those moments with Robin ever again and it was all her own fault.
Arya didn't argue, she just stood from a distance, seeing if Robin would say something. Waiting to see if he'd give her another chance but she knew how it was going to end.
"Arya... I know your sorry and this isn't the way you wanted things to turn out but... I need to know... are you dating him?" His head turned back to see her reaction.
Arya couldn't lie, not again, she only nodded slowly.
Watching Robin deflate, he turned away again,"for as long as your with him we can't be together, you know that..."
Her heart thudded inside her, trying to break through her chest. At this point it was uncontrollable, trying to keep her legs from trembling so much she'd collapse.
"I know, but if I could choose you or him, I'd choose" Arya's voice was only a whisper, nearly reaching the ears of Robin.
"Don't do that Arya.... Don't say that" Robins words trembled, he couldn't even look at her now.
The two were once again met with silence, neither looking at one another. Though this silence was soon broken by another sound. The sound of feet, treading on the dense ground.
Arya turned to find were the noise came from, Robin still facing away from her.
"Well, well well... I thought I'd find you here"...
A bit of a shorter chapter this time, but we are 5 chapters away from the end of On The Hill and I can't believe it. I hope you've enjoyed this far because I know this has been my most favourite story to write as it's located in a place that is close to my heart and I just warmed to the characters very quickly. I'd love to hear who your favourite is, mine would definitely be Robin or Jen.
Anyway I'll see you in the next chapter, bye <3
