Despite the late night I was up with more energy then Most days. By the time Margret came to wake me I was done dressing and heading down to my sitting room.
"Good Morning Alice."
"Good morning Margret I was hoping that I could have my breakfast in my sitting room please."
"Of course" she looked at me a bit oddly. I just kept walking down stairs and walked into the room. I decided that I wanted to sit next to the window and moved a small table and chair to the window and started to read my book. I was very much into this book. It was about a girl that both her parents died and her uncle took her in and was able marry into a family that loved her and treated her like a daughter. I was quite lovely. That is until my mother walked in and escorted me to the green sitting room.
"Mother I can not entertained gentlemen for I am to be married."
"Yes I know that but they don't and we need to keep the Ton from gossiping of you and the interesting fact that you are no longer taking in interest in suitors."
"Wouldn't that be better? The Taylor's will believe that I have accepted there threat and the Ton will have no Idea but to think that I am with someone and When the day comes to announce my wedding to Ez- Mr. Evengston it will make it believable to those of the Ton that this match was one not of scandal but one of Love?"
"Yes that does make some sense. Well then just ignore the fact that there in the room try not to be interested in anything they say be as withdrawn from the room as possible. After a few minutes of your actions I am sure they will be gone very soon."
As mothers plans went they worked perfectly and soon the three man were guided out of the house by Matthew. I went back to my sitting room after my mother and I planned to do the same thing every time suitors come to call. I continued to sit and read my book.
In the story the young girl was now working on her wedding and very happy it was finally happening.
"Miss Alice" Matthew was here with guests "Miss Lavinia Edwards and Miss Kate Morgan."
"Thank you Matthew and if we could get some tea please." He nodded and walked away while my friends made themselves comfortable.
"How are you both doing this fine day?" I asked "Kate it is nice to see you in one piece I hope your travels to Cambridge was nice."
"Oh Yes of course. Very boring actually but I do miss it very much. My home is a ravaged mess with wedding things and Mercy is no where being ready for the big day and mother is make it everyone else's fault that things are not the way she would like them to be. Which is why I am so grateful to be here." She said
"Kate since you have been back in town have you been spending time with anyone in particular?" I asked
"No not anyone in particular" Kate answered. So my brother still hasn't talked to her.
"I have something to tell but this information does not leave this room. Please promise me." after we reassured he we would keep her promise she continued "Lydia is fulling around with a gentleman."
"What do you mean?"
"How would you know?"
"did you see her?"
"Who is the man"
"Was he in the house?"
"Did you see him kiss her?"
"Where did you see them?"
Kate and I were just shouting out questions
"I don't know who he is. At every ball we have been to this season she disappears. I can not find her anywhere and I try not to make it look like she is missing and I try not to ask around for her because I don't want to draw attention to the fact that she has disappears. I am worried about her and the other night I was not feeling good and I went down to the kitchen I was seated in the corner eating a biscuit and she walks in from outside. Saying good night to a man that I couldn't see. But she didn't even notice me sitting there in the same room as her. she just quietly walked out of the room and up to hers. I couldn't believe my eyes. I know she was disappearing but I thought she was smarter then this. To let herself be foolish with a man. What would my father do if he were the one there that night at the table. What if she gets caught by someone else what will happen to our reputation. She could ruin the chances of me marrying into a good family. I just don't know what to do."
Kate and I looked at each other not sure what to say to her.
"Lavinia it's going to be all right." I said
"Have you tried talking to here to ask what is happening? To see this situation from her point of view" Kate said
"Maybe there is more to the story then meets the eye." I added
"Maybe but I'm not sure. I might be to scared to confront her." Lavinia said
"Well you will never know if you don't ask her." Kate said
"Ladies let's do something tomorrow."
"Like what?" Lavinia said
"I will do anything to stay out of my home." Kate said
"I'm thinking a picnic at the park tomorrow at noon."
"Oh yes please let me arrange everything. Our new chef makes these amazing little pastries." Lavinia got so excited and spent the next few hours talking about the food and where we would meet and at what time. She was so distracted never mentioned her sister again. Kate and I just let her go and plan everything.
Before I realized it was time for dinner and I was dressed in a red gown that my mother had picked out for me. I decided to let my hair down in long waves of curls.
Dinner was normal as usual nothing to exciting and after my brothers just went to there rooms. So I just went to go read my books till I went to sleep.
