Finding Love

Chapter three

The street we got to was full of men trying to get into the club most were man from the ton and business man. The club its self not what I expected. It looked like any ordinary business building maybe where you would find a lawyer. I wasn't sure what I was expecting maybe more light or noise. But that all came into view once we stepped inside. The first room you enter as if any other sitting room in any house with seating room for anyone and drinks. There was three men. Two bickering about something with drinks in hand and John just lead us right through the room nodding his head at the third man standing by the door way to another part of the club. Once we passed the door way and out of the hall we found ourselves in a very large room with tables all around with different kinds of games. Now this is what I imagined. Men all around drinking laughing servers walking around with port and other drinks.

"So is it all that you expected?" Joseph said.

"As a matter of fact it is. You described it perfectly." I said back to him.

"All right lets get drunk." Mark said as he walked away chasing a server.

"I'm going to that table remember you all have your limit on spending do not come to me if you lose more." John said as he unbutton his coat and started to walk away.

"John. What about?" He nodded his head at me. "We can't just leave Alex all alone"

"George I would not have let Alex come if I didn't think he was capable to watch his own back. Besides Joseph would never leave his side. Right Joseph."

"As I live and breath."

"Your joking? Right. Joseph couldn't even take care of a fish in water let alone our sis-Alex in a place like this." George fought on.

"George if your so worried you stay with him. But I see Mr. Jones who owes me a game." And he like mark walked away.

"George ill be fine. Come Joseph I see and old man with a big purse of money over there." I said grabbing his hand and pulling him away.

"Alex you might let go of my hand and act like a man a bit." He said quietly. In my embarrassment I let go of his hand and stood straighter and walked over to the table that I had mentioned. There sat the old man and two others. One of the men looked at who my brother is and got up and walked away from the table. I looked at Joseph to about to ask but he just shook his head. Fine then ill ask later.

"Hello there gentlemen. Lord Brington, Mr. Faring. This is one of my associate Alex. Don't yet his young man demeanor fool you he will beat you at your best hand." He gestured to me

"None sense Joseph this is my first time being here. Just hoping to lose a little money and enjoy my port." I said sitting down and the men laughed a little bit. Lord Brington is a plump man and I had met his eldest who would one day take over as Lord at a ball the year prior. Mr. Faring was younger about the age of John.

The cards were dealt Joseph kept them small talking to them so they didn't ask me anything. In the time we spent there Joseph would answer all questions and keep them entertained to there cards and I learned that my brother was a very skilled liar. We laughed at his jokes and enjoyed our time Mr. Faring won the first time and after that I won all four games.

"It looks like I'm all out for tonight. I can't say it was nice meeting you Alex but you have a fine evening." Mr Faring took his leave from the table. The chair didn't stay empty for long. Mr. Rosbend stepped up to the table. My brother and I looked at each other in horror. Well maybe on my face there was horror.

"Hello Uncle nice to see you here this night. How is Aunt Amelia." Joseph said As our uncle took a seat.

"Looks like I'll try my luck else where. Goodnight Lord Brington." I got up and walked away as quickly as I could before my uncle recognized me. I walked around watching the crowd till I sat on one of the chairs by the windows. Standing up to quickly my the room spin a bit I didn't realize how much port I had till now. I went to sit down on a small table by a closed window.
