British Bird
Chapter Forty Three
Sang

Tuesday morning I get up, have breakfast and then go to college to withdraw. My tutor is sad to see me go, especially because I've worked so hard on the course. When I told her my plans, not in great depth, just a very long story cut short, she immediately wrote me a letter of recommendation and gave me a number to a friend of hers that works at a University in Washington, saying that they might know someone that can help me once I land on American Soil.

I thanked her for her time and then left, handing in my college ID. On my way home, I texted Axel and asked him to get Corey to meet me at my flat and to come alone. I wanted to purchase Nathan's old house for Evie and Ruby, it didn't require all three of them to be there.

I'm just putting some washing in the machine when there's a knock at the door. I open it and let Corey in, looking down the hall towards the stairs to make sure he is alone. He chuckles when he sees what I'm doing. "They didn't come. Raven wanted to, but I told him it might be best if he didn't."

I sigh with relief. "Thank you."

Instead of the kitchen, I point Corey to my living room and we go inside, both of us sitting down on the couch. "Axel really pissed you off last night, didn't he?"

I nod my head. "Yes. Evie doesn't need one of you Academy boys finding out her history. I don't need you finding out."

"It's just what we do, Sang, it's who we are."

I pinch my eyebrows down into a frown. "I know. Just this one time though, don't do whatever it is you academy guys do, and just get to know someone the proper way."

He grins over at me. "The more I'm around you, the more I like."

I roll my eyes and watch as he pulls his laptop from his bag. "Let's purchase a house," I murmur.

Two hours later, the official process started. I'm putting the house in Evie's name and will need her to sign off on some legal stuff, but otherwise, she's officially a homeowner. I also get Corey to print off the details to local childcare facilities...he doesn't hesitate to tell me that the top two are Academy owned. The next thing is finding us both jobs; we don't need them, I'm happy to support Evie if she needs or wants the financial help but for our Visa's, until we get into some education again, then we need a job to be able to be there.

Corey gets straight on the phone to Uncle, making sure he's alone before asking the question: Can Sang and Evie work at the Diner? Off course he says yes, not that I was expecting anything less from Uncle. If he couldn't hire us, he would have found someone who would.

With a house purchased, possible childcare facilities in my hand and a job ready, I feel another step closer. Tomorrow, Evie and I will go to the passport office and sort out passports for the three of us.

Before Corey leaves, he rings Marc, Theo and his twin brother, Brandon, asking them if they could redecorate the house, make sure there is a safety fence around the pool and new furniture and anything else we may need throughout. I'm only taking personal belongings and will tell Evie to do the same for her and Ruby.

"Will you need a car?" Corey asks. "Or Evie?"

I look at him with wide eyes before shaking my head. "No. I don't have my license. And I'm pretty sure Evie doesn't have hers either." I pause, staring at him. His eyebrow jumps up, amusement dancing in his eyes as he silently asks me a question. "Fine. I'm not driving on the opposite side of the road."

"North will teach you," he laughs.

"No. I'm not doing it."

He laughs again. It's almost like he doesn't believe me.
