Flashback – Thirteen Years Old

A sound stirs me from sleep, my eyes to heavy to open. I let out a grunt of protest, finding the quilt and pulling it up under my chin before snuggling closer into the warmth that I'm pressed against, and letting out a contented sigh. A heavy weight around my shoulders tightens, and a sound rumbles under my ear. A smile curls at my lips, but I'm not sure why.

Another sound. A clearing of a throat. My eyes spring open and I meet the stern ones of Cara Taylor. Her arms are folded across her chest, her lips pursed. She doesn't look very happy and it isn't until I feel fingers threading through my hair that I let out a startled gasp, sitting up in bed.

My eyes land on a sleeping North, and before I can even think what I'm doing, my hands are on his ribs and I'm pushing him out of bed. Cara steps back and North lets out a grunt. "Why did you do that?" He grumbles.

"You was cuddling me." And I liked it. Not that I'm going to say that out loud.

"You were cuddling me," he says, sitting up and back into his heels. His sleepy eyes meet mine, "No need to push me out of the fucking bed though."

"Language," Cara snaps. North tenses, his eyes widening. He slowly stands before turning and giving Cara his attention. I fly out of bed, fixing my tank top as I do. It had ridden up and was nestled under my barely there boobs. "What are you doing in here, North?"

"Don't have a go at him," I say, rounding the bed. Cara gives me her attention. "I had a nightmare and the sheets were wet with my sweat. North was up and heard me so he helped. I asked him to lay with me, but we both must have fell asleep. I wasn't cuddling him at that point though."

Cara's eyes soften. "You had a nightmare?"

I nod my head. "Yeah. I'm alright though. First one in months."

Her arms drop to her sides and she looks back to North. "Alright, I'll let it go this once, but don't let it happen again. Sleeping in a bed next to someone is completely different in my book than sleeping next to someone in a sleeping bag, on the floor, with a group of other boys in the room." She pauses. "Breakfast is almost ready." With that, she turns and leaves the room.

I look to North as he looks to me and I grimace. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to fall asleep."

His lips turn up into a smile. "I didn't either, don't worry." I turn and go into the closet, grabbing some clothes before returning back into the bedroom and picking up my towel. "You off to shower?"

"Yeah. I need one after sweating last night," I tell him. "See yourself out." I laugh, causing him to laugh with me. Going down the hall, I push open the bathroom and go inside, locking it behind me.

I turn on the shower and quickly wash my hair, shave my legs, and use my jasmine scented body wash to scrub away last night's nightmare. I'm hoping it was a one off, but I'll see tonight when I close my eyes, hoping and praying I don't wake again in a cold sweat.

Getting out of the shower, I dry and pull of a pair of white shorts and a light blue tank top that has 'Blonde and Proud' on the front of it. I brush my teeth before leaving the bathroom, drying my hair as I go.

North isn't in there when I return. I hadn't expected him to be. Knowing I had been cuddled up to him all night though does bring a smile to my face and blush to my cheeks. Picking up my hair brush from the dresser, I notice a ripped slip of paper. Picking it up, I read the words that are scrawled across the paper.
