British Bird
Chapter Forty Seven
Sang

I spent the rest of my morning with Cara and Johnny. We talked, cried a little bit more, especially when Cara talked about her cancer, but we also laughed and I treasured every single moment.

After a bite of lunch, Cara and I went to see Evie. The house is perfect. It has three bedrooms, one with an Ensuite, which Evie dubbed as hers. Ruby is in the smaller bedroom, the walls painted a pink with stickers of different cartoon characters. A ton of toys were in the corner; Evie explained that Raven went shopping without any of the others knowledge and treated his new little friend with new toys to play with. I thought it was cute, as did Evie, but I saw the scowl on Aaron's face as we were talking about it. When he saw me looking at him, he flinched and quickly changed his expression to nothing. Completely blank.

The last bedroom was supposed to be mine, but Cara and Johnny told me I could stay with them so I was taking them up on the offer. Aaron and Wes were sharing that room, but both had said that they want their own place and can't share a room like they're kids. Evie looked sad at this. Cara even gave me a questioning raise of her eyebrows which I shook my head too.

Throughout the whole house I found it had been lovely decorated and furnished. I was happy with what the Toma team had done. Even the yard was awesome; they had put in a safety fence, along with a cover for the pool but had also got a small climbing frame so Ruby can play outside.

Evie seemed happy too, gushing about her yellow and pink bathroom, the way the blue of the living room really brightened the room and how she couldn't wait to go shopping to fill up the pantry.

But I am starting to get antsy now. I wanted, and needed, to see the guys.

Cara decided to stay for a coffee with Evie while I went home, back to Cara and Johnny's house. I walked in the front door and found Johnny lounging on the sofa with some comedian on the TV and his laptop on his lap. I sat down beside him. "Do you know where the guys are?" I ask.

He looks at me and grins. "I did wonder how long it would take." He closes his laptop and places it on the coffee table. "I'm surprised they haven't blown up my phone. They're being patient, I admire that."

I laugh, shaking my head. "Doesn't really answer my question."

He chuckles. "I know." He stands up, pulling some keys from his pocket. "C'mon. I'll take you to them."

He locks the front door behind us as we make our way to the car sitting in the drive. I automatically go for the passenger side, which isn't the passenger side here. Johnny laughs, I shoot him a mock glare and round the bonnet of the car before getting into the passenger. "Habit," I mutter as Johnny continues to laugh.

"I was the same. Sometimes, if I'm so deep in thought and not paying real attention to what I'm doing, then I head for the wrong door too." He starts the car, and backs out of the drive. "I'll have to teach you."

Not this again. "No."

"What? Why?" He shoots me a look before focusing on the road, doing a slow crawl.

"I'm not having this argument again," I sigh, looking over at him. "Just no. It's not right."

Johnny laughs and speeds up a little. Just as we're about to hit the exit from Summerville, he turns into the parking area for the dinner, finding a space and pulling into it before shutting off the engine. "We're here."

I look at the diner and then back to Johnny. I think I repeated the motion a few more times before finally settling my gaze on him. "They're here?"
