British Bird
Chapter Thirty Six
SangFlashback: Thirteen Years Old
"May I cut in?" Kota asks, bringing mine and Luke's dancing to a stop.
I look to Luke, who smiles as he removes my hands from his shoulders. "Of course," he says, giving me a wink as he gives one of my hands to Kota.
Wrapping his fingers around my hand, Kota gives him a nod of thanks and pulls me gently into him. I rest my hands on his shoulders, as he rests his on my waist. I sigh and close my eyes. "Thank you," I whisper.
"What are you thanking me for, Sweetie?"
"Just for being who you are, all of you."
Kota doesn't reply, but then again, I don't need him to. I let him take the lead, my movements following his. Victor continues to play on the piano, and every now and then I find myself watching him, absorbing all of this in like a sponge thirsty for water.
"After this song, would you mind if I introduced you to my mom and sister? Officially?" He asks with a smirk.
My eyes spring open and I nod my head eagerly, my lips splitting into a wide smile. "Of course."
"They're looking forward to seeing you; the girl that has captured my heart." My heart skips a beat at his words. "Please don't ever doubt what I feel for you," he adds.
"I'll try my best, that's all I can offer."
"That's all I need."
Kota leads me from the dance floor and over to a table in the corner of the room. I find Johnny sitting in the chair next to Kota's Mum, chatting and smile coming from both person's. Jessica is gazing around the room in wonder. When her eyes settle on me, they widen behind her glasses and does a move I'm all too familiar with; she pushes her glass up her nose with her finger.
I can't help but smile wider.
Jessica matches my smile and nudges her Mum's arm with her elbow. When Erica looks to her daughter, Jessica nods her head in our direction and her green eyes soon find us.
Immediately Erica is springing from her seat, not caring for the few wrinkles that were formed in her dress by sitting down. She rounds the table and we come to a stop, a little surprised when she pulls me into a warm hug. "Sang, you look incredible."
"As do you, Mrs Lee, thank you."
She tuts me as she pulls away. "Enough of that. Erica is fine." She smiles kindly. "Have you had a lovely vacation?"
I nod my head and from the corner of my eye see Johnny stand from the chair he was sitting in. "I have, it's one I'll remember for forever, that's for sure."
"That fantastic," Erica murmurs and I nod my head in agreement. She focuses her eyes on her son. "And you, my little boy, all grown up."
Kota cheeks turn red. "Mom," he groans.
"Dashing." She pats his chest, her green eyes shining bright. "I'm proud."
"Thanks, Mom," he murmurs, a hint of a smile ghosting across his lips. He'd never admit it, but I believe he's a Mummy's boy at heart and loves the attention he gets from his Mum.
"Come, lets go and get some pictures." We follow Erica and have our pictures taken. This night is becoming On of the best nights of my life.
