Chapter 6

ONE WEEK LATER..........

It had been a week since the bonfire and Hope hadn’t seen the mystery boy since. It was as if he didn’t exist, but her heart told her otherwise. Remembering the way his arms felt around her waist. The way his heart beat faster with her single touch or maybe her heart was the one that was beating faster. She heard her mom call out her name and ran outside to the car. They needed to go grocery shopping for the bonfire they would be having tonight with the Smiths and of course Liam’s guest, Madison. The two had spent about every day together. She was always over at his place swimming or just hanging out with Liam. Hope had hung out with them a few times but decided to stop because she was always left out, Liam would try to talk to her, but she lost the words to say to him. When he caught on that she wasn’t trying to talk to him he stopped trying.

Since the Bonfire it had gotten easier to see Madison with him. They looked happy together and she was truly happy for her friend.

She was thankful to her dad for staying home with the boys. Trevor and Jason would have made shopping for food twice as long as it should take. When they pulled up to the nearest WinCo Foods Hope got out of the car and waited for her mom to be by her side. She looked forward and saw Madison’s familiar curly black hair bouncing up and down with every step she took. Hope slid between the cars hiding herself. She wasn’t ready to hear Madison ramble on and on about how perfect Liam was and how lucky she was to have him. It would have just made Hope jealous and that was the last thing she wanted.

Luckily, they made it through grocery shopping without running into Madison. As they headed home her mom asked her, "So what’s up with you and Liam?" It took Hope by surprise. She never really talked to her mom about these kinds of things. She was always so used to talking to her dad about her problems. She shifted uncomfortably in her chair and looked at the road. "What do you mean?" She asked her mom.

"Well when he first came here you guys seemed to be together a lot. And now it seems like your ignoring him."

"I’m not ignoring him! If anyone is ignoring anyone, HE would be the one ignoring me. Ever since him and Madison started hanging out its as if I don’t exist."

"But I thought he liked you, I mean the way he looked at you.." This took Hope by surprise.

"The way he looked at me? How did he look at me?"

“Well..Every time you were talking or even just passed by him it was as if you were the only thing that existed."

Hope blushed, "Well that’s not how it is. He looks at Madison like that. She says they were made for each other..."

"Are you okay with it?"

"With what?"

"With them being together?"

"What else am I supposed to do about it?"

"Hope. I’ve learned that you have to go after the things you want in life. Even if it means getting there the hard way. It will take awhile to get to Liam but if you set your mind on it you will have him. He will be yours. What you and Liam have is something him and Madison will never have, at least for while."

"What are you talking about mom?"

"Love, Hope."

She laughed, "Mom your crazy. Me and Liam don’t love each other."

"You may not see it now, but you two basically grew up together. Even after all those fights you two had, you still cared for one another. Admit it or not, I know what I see."

Hope dropped the idea of loving Liam and looked out the window allowing the car to become silent. Her mind wandered to Dylan the boy that made her head spin.

--------

Later that day Mrs. Smith told them that they would have to reschedule the bonfire because she had to take care of business. Hope felt relieved, she wouldn’t have to deal with Liam for another day.
