Chapter 14

Hope sat on the couch staring at her phone, it had been two days since she had last seen or heard from Dylan. Did something happen to him? Did some other girl catch his eye?

"You waiting for a phone call?" She heard her dad say. She quickly turned around and saw him leaning against the wall. His brown eyes looked worn out and tired, but yet he still smiled at her with his teasing look. She blushed and looked back at her phone.

"No I'm not." He shook his head and chuckled; he walked out of the living room and went into the kitchen to join her mom. She could hear the twin's upstairs wrestling. She got up and grabbed her phone. She walked toward the kitchen but stopped herself when she heard her parents quietly talking. She walked to the arch and hid behind the wall. As she leaned closer she could hear that their tone wasn't mad. Feeling bad for eavesdropping she sighed and walked outside. She got into her car and made her way towards Ann's Diner. Hope and Liam would always go there as kids. The sun was slowly starting to set and Hope had realized that she hadn't painted in a long time.

She parked up right in the front and took her purse out. She started to walk towards the diner but quickly stopped herself when she saw Dylan. She would have rushed right up to him and threw her arms around him, but he wasn't alone. Dylan was sitting with a girl. She had black hair that was almost as dark as his. She was tall, skinny and of course perfect. The exact opposite of what Hope was. She quickly hurried back to her car and watched as they both left. Dylan's hand lay lightly on her lower back leading her to his car. She was wearing tight black skinny jeans with heels and a leather jacket that made her look like a bad girl. She was everything any guy would be attracted to.
Hope quickly pulled out of the parking lot and drove home fighting back tears.

It wasn't worth it, she deserved someone better than Dylan. He was just a player like all the other boys. But even as she thought these things she knew they weren't true. So why was he with another girl? As she pulled up to her driveway she could see Liam's house, his front window illuminated up with light. Hope didn't know what she was doing until she was at his door. She felt her hand knock. She was about to walk away when the door opened. Liam was laughing and when he looked up to see Hope his laugh quickly disappeared. In its place was concern and worry.

"Hope? What's wrong?"

"Nothing." Within seconds she could feel warm, fresh tears running down her face. Liam stepped out of his house. Hope glanced behind him and saw that Madison was sitting on the couch engulfed in a movie that was playing on the screen."I'm sorry I shouldn't have come." She wiped her tears away and started walking away. Liam grabbed her arm and pulled her towards him. His touch brought tingles to her skin. She let herself melt into him, she let him lightly touch her hair and whisper that everything was going to be okay. She could hear his heart thumping loudly and rapidly under her fingertips. She looked up at him and could see that he was looking at her. His eyebrows were creased.

He lightly brushed his thumb along her cheek wiping away a tear that escaped from her eye. His hand lingered on her face. She held her breath and looked into his eyes. He brought his forehead down to hers so that their faces were inches apart. She had stopped crying and hadn't noticed that her heart had jumped to her throat.

"Hope." She heard him whisper against her cheek. She let out a sigh and closed her eyes.

"LIAM?? Come back! You're missing the movie!!" Hope felt herself flinch at the sound of Madison's voice. She took her head away from Liam's and untangled herself from his arms. He held out a hand for her to come back, but she shook her head and walked away. "Hope come here." She heard him call out.

"This was a mistake, I'm sorry." She ran up to her house and quickly unlocked it. She opened the door and ran up her stairs. She fell onto her bed and allowed her feelings to finally wash over her. She felt so broken, both Liam and Dylan didn't want her. She felt tears spill down over her cheeks and this time she didn't try to stop them. She covered her sobs and buried her head in her pillow. She would never be good enough for anyone. She turned onto her side and looked out her window. There were four stars that were bright enough for her to see. She could feel herself slowly starting to doze off but her phone buzzed against her back. She looked at the screen when she saw Liam's name.

Goodnight Star. Sweet dreams. I just wanted to say everything's going to be okay, it always is. And if Dylan did something to you... Tell me and Ill kick his ass. Goodnight :)

She tossed her phone over the bed and fresh tears spilled over her skin. She felt her eyes close. She dozed off into a deep sleep. This was the first time in Hopes life that she had ever cried herself to sleep. And of course it had to be over two very annoying Jerks that she so happened to care a lot about.
