Felix hadn't expected his day so far to go like this. He doesn't even know how he got here. Actually, he does. He agreed to come to this girl's home. Why the hell had he actually agreed? They were greeted by Marinette's parents who seemed awfully welcoming and friendly which oddly warmed him a little. He wasn't used to that sort of reaction around him. Usually, people were distant because of his cold nature.
Not that it bothered him that much. Some people were not worth being around anyway
"Is there anything specific you would like to eat?" she asked jolting him out of his thoughts.
"What would you recommend?"
"Hmmm...how about some macarons?"
"Are they any good?"
Marinette scoffed at the blonde as though he just asked the dumbest question on earth.
"Of course they're good. Here," she grabbed some strawberry flavoured macarons from the shelf and handed one to him.
He looked sceptical but took it anyway and had a bite. His brows rose once the macaron hit his tastebuds. They were good. Really good.
"By the look on your face, they are good?" Marinette cocked her head a bit to the side. Felix swallowed and nodded.
"Yes, I suppose they pass off as good" he replied taking another one.
Marinette just playfully rolled her eyes and lead him to the living room.
The pair ate in silence until Felix decided to break the silence.
"So tell me, why is it that you always come here for lunch? Do you not sit with anyone else?" he asked. He then frowned a bit when he saw her demeanour change.
"I just feel...safer here. It's the one time during school hours that I can just escape from everyone"
"Whatever do you mean by that?"
Marinette sighed. "Do you know Lila Rossi?"
"The one with that funny hairstyle who offered me a seat?" Felix mused. Marinette giggled softly at that.
"Yeah, her. Well, she is the biggest liar you'll ever meet. Lying is how she breaths" she sighed. "I tried to make everyone else see that too two years ago. She threatened me. She said that she would take all my friends away from me. Well, she succeeded. And now, for the past two years, I've been bullied by people who claim that I am the bully. Whenever Lila say anything they instantly believe her without checking for information first. She makes me seem like the bad guy. And anything I say is always used against me"
Felix could tell Marinette was trying to hold back tears from the little voice breaks she made. Part of him felt rather pissed off at that. Even as Marinette went on about how they would threaten her, call her outrageous names, etcetera. These were really people she used to see as friends? And they're also the ones who called her the bully when they are doing exactly that. Bullying Marinette.
"Sometimes I wonder if I should have listened to Adrien" Felix snapped his head towards her and looked at her in shock.
"What?"
"He said I should take the high road. That this whole thing with Lila wasn't hurting anyone. That I should not try to expose Lila and just...let it all happen. Maybe then, I'd still have my friends."
Felix glared at her causing her to cower a bit.
"Why on earth would you listen to that spineless fool? He's telling you not to say anything? And it's not hurting anyone? Pah! He's blinder than I thought. Can he not see that you are obviously getting hurt!? And those people are not your friends"
"But-"
"No Marinette," he said sternly. "You cannot allow yourself to be pushed around by a pack of mindless sheep"
"But I'm just one person. As I've said, I've tried to defend myself. Really, I have. Even this morning, before you came in. Lila accused me of pulling her hair and calling her a worthless whore! Alya threatened me again and it felt worse than anything I've had said to me so far. I'm just...scared things will get out of hand"
Felix clenched his fist but relaxed them again. He needed to get his emotions together. He shouldn't be getting this agitated for the girl he's known for a few hours. But he couldn't help it.
"Marine-"
"We should head back," she said standing up from the couch. Felix frowned but decided not to push on the subject any further. For now.
"I suppose we should"
the pair packed their things, said goodbye to marinette;s parents and walked out of the bakery, making their way back to school.
