Adam
Usually, I’m fashionably late. But this time I was just late. I was disappointed to see even the freshman arrived on time or even early. I blame my grandmother.
She wanted to have tea before I left then I got caught in her web of interesting conversation. She always does that. I looked at the clock and found out my flight leaves in ten minutes. Luckily, Grandmother lives close to the airport.
My chauffeur flew to Manhattan with me so that he could carry my bags in. I can’t bear to pull a muscle in my arm again.
By the time I got to the school everyone had found their rooms. I was to stay in room 3. It was half past two. My chauffeur hauled my bags up the stairs and into my bedroom. There were two boys there. The despicable Darcy Bertram and another boy I didn’t know. They looked like they wouldn’t speak to one another. Bertram was on his laptop, most likely hacking into some government website. And Ian was curled up on his bed reading a book. They both looked at me when I entered.
“Why, hello, Adam! What a pleasure.” Darcy grinned evilly. “My old partner in crime.”
“Please, Bertram, I never joined your forces.”
“Oh we used to have such fun together, ruining people’s lives.”
“I already told you-” I looked at the boy reading the book. He wore a green polo shirt and slacks, trimmed dark hair, green eyes, and a fair complexion. He looked so innocent. Perfect.
“Why, I believe I’ve left my manners back in Arizona. What’s your name?” I asked him.
“Ian Chester.” He replied.
“Hmmm, perhaps your father is David Chester, the architect of many famous places such as, Mannington Hall and Richardson Park?”
“Yeah.”
“I suspected. You weren’t here when I was here, so I suspect you’re a freshman?”
“Sophomore, actually.”
“Of course. I came here as a freshman but unfortunately I couldn’t make it for my second year due to family affairs.”
“Oh, sorry.”
“What are you apologizing for?”
“I don’t know.”
“Right. So tell me, Ian, where are you from?”
“Connecticut.”
They left me the worst bed, right near the wall. And next door is a freshmen bedroom. Of course.
I was disappointed about not returning for my sophomore year but my father said we couldn’t postpone the ceremony.
