                                           Ian

Something weird just happened. Me and Gwen talked in the hall. She was acting odd. Like getting close to me and giggling. I think she likes me or something. She’s a really nice girl but I think I just like her as a friend. Ben’s going to Alex’s party. I find we have a lot in common. We like the same music and we’re both semi addicted to video games. I’ve finally made a friend out of the geek crowd!

I told Adam about Gwen. I hope she doesn’t mind. Dang. I should’ve asked her about the picture. I can’t live my school life without knowing if the picture’s fake.

Seven thirty arrives and freshmen and whoever else starts to head downstairs to Alex’s party. Cerise’s party started thirty minutes ago and they all seem to be having a blast. Because their music is blaring past my ear buds! I crank the volume to as high as it can go and press them in even more with my fingers. And finally, I don’t hear a thing but my music.

A little bit later I take them off and downstairs is the freshmen party that’s surprisingly is quieter than the other party. I put my laptop down and go down the stairs barefoot.

And then as odd as it is, I see a bunch of kids all gathered around the living room table playing a board game.

Then I see Alex laid out on the couch looking miserable. Her choppy black hair is frizzy and even more crazy looking. She has one sock fully on and the other is hanging off her toes. I see her one of her sneakers hanging off the fan by its laces and the other one is at the table splashed in the dip. And the table that used to have tasty looking treats no longer has any and has been left in disarray. I also see Adam sitting at the table looking for scraps. Alex rubs her eyes and she smears her makeup, leaving her look like a raccoon.

She notices me as I step down the last step.

“Great party huh, Ian?”

“Yeah. What happened?”

She gets up off the couch balancing on a freshmen’s head and then pushing him into his cards.

“Well. Let’s see. First they all came chipper and then they ate all the food, danced and then got bored. And that’s when things went mad. They took the founder’s ceramic head off the shelf and started playing catch with it, I objected and told them to play with something else. So they took my shoes. After some insanity and me trying to lock three freshmen down at a time, they got tired of that and thank heavens, settled for Scrabble.”

“I told you what you were getting into.”

“Oh shut up. The truth is I actually kind of-” She scratches her forehead and looks at her feet.

“You did want to go to Cerise’s party.”

“Okay so maybe I did! I didn’t want her to think I was going to spend the night all alone so I decided to host this fail of a party.”

“Right.”

Adam walks over.

“What happened to Gwen?” He asks.

“Oh she had a better party to go to.”

“What do you mean? I thought she was coming to this party.”

“Sorry if you were confused, but Gwen’s at Cerise’s party.”

“Isn’t this Cerise’s party?” He asks.

“No. They’re two separate parties.”

Adam pats his tux and scratches his head.

“Oh.” He replied sadly.

Alex pulled Adam to the side and started whispering to him. I made some out.

“I told Gwen.”

“That I like her?”

“Well, not exactly. I told her that someone likes her.”

“Why?”

“I guess to help you out.”

And at that moment I realized. Gwen thought that I was the one who likes her but it’s really Adam. Oh gee. I seriously don’t want to get in the middle of this and look like I’m trying to steal Gwen from Adam.
