Adam
I am confident I’ve met an angel. She’s beautiful and funny and smart. She’s a sophomore.
In other news, father called me after school and told me I would officially start business when I got home from Corray De Lor. To be honest, I’m afraid. It’s not like starting your first job nervous kind of afraid, it’s like you’re going to die kind of afraid.
See, my family comes from Italy, but me and my mother moved to America for my sake when I was very young. I am a bit ashamed of what my family is. But I agreed to start business because I don’t want to disappoint my father.
School is adequate.
Being roommates with my old frenemy is quite intolerable. Not only does he snore but he also talks in his sleep. Last night he was going on about how a girl named Shelly was eating all of his ice cream.
When school finished, I met up with her again. Gwen Calber.
She has dark brown hair and piercing blue eyes. I can’t help but to notice she always looks insecure and scared around everyone in the school. She’s the most attractive girl I’ve ever met. Though I’ve only just met her this morning, I think I’m in love.
Anyone who knows me well knows that I’ve never been in love before. I don’t really have any close friends so I guess no one knows.
Gwen doesn’t know me well, so I’ll take it slow. Maybe at the end of the year I’ll tell her how I feel. No, that’s not a very good idea. We’ll go our separate ways till next year, and who knows, maybe she’ll have a new love interest. Or maybe she won’t even feel the same way.
We met outside the school. It looked like she was hiding, off in the corner where no one would see her. I however, did spot her.
“Gwen.” I called.
“Oh hey, Adam.” She replied.
“You’re hiding, aren’t you?”
“Ha…How’d you know?”
“Well, standing off in the corner looking a little nervous…”
She laughed. The sweet sound of her beautiful laughter.
“But from what?”
“Uhh…Everyone. Something happened today in class.”
“What?”
“You had to be here last year to know.”
“Ah yes, I missed it.”
“You look old to be a freshman.” She said.
“Oh, I’m not a freshman. I came here the first year but I couldn’t make it for sophomore year, but I return to be a junior.”
“Oh! Sorry. I didn’t know.”
“It’s fine.”
“So, why couldn’t you come last year?” She asks.
“Family business.”
“Ah.”
I want to ask her what happened in class but I’m afraid I’ll sound pushy. I decide to leave the subject behind. I’m sure it will come up again.
“Nice weather, huh?” I couldn’t believe I pulled out the weather card. Everyone knows you say that when you don’t have anything else to say.
A crowd of students bustled out of the school.
“I think we should head back to the house now. Unless you have something else to do here.”
“No. I’m good.”
We started walking when an Asian girl ran up to Gwen’s side.
“Oh hey, Alex.”
“Gwen! I’ve been trying to find you since second period!”
“What do you mean?”
“As soon as class ends you run out and go into next class and I can’t talk to you.”
“Sorry. What did you want to tell me?”
“Okay first, I kind of took care of Ginny for you-”
“You didn’t have to do that, Alex-“
“And second, hi, Adam! And thirdly the picture from last year. I think it was fake, it was right?”
Gwen shoots an angry look at Alex and then smiles at me. She whispers to Alex.
“Yes, of course it was!”
“Thank heavens. Got any proof?”
“Uh. Sorry I didn’t know this was a courtroom.”
“Sorry, Gwen, but do you?”
“Ask Darcy.” She snaps.
“I did!”
“Drop it, Alex!”
Alex raises an eyebrow at me.
“So, Adam. Where are you from?”
“Arizona.”
“That’s cool. My mom’s in the fashion business and so am I. Well not exactly business, but I make my own clothes and I’m hoping to start a line by myself.”
I smiled and peeked over at Gwen. Her blue eyes were looking at the ground nervously.
Something was going on with her. What was Alex talking about? A picture from last year involving Gwen. It seemed she didn’t want to talk about it.
