                                                                     Gwen

The second day of Corray De Lor is pretty good.

I walk to school with Adam and Ian. I can’t help to notice that Ian doesn’t really seem interested in me. But Alex told me he liked me. Well, she didn’t exactly say it was him. But I’m pretty sure. Who else would it be?

When other students walk past us they don’t look at me funny or whisper about me to their friends. I feel safe with Adam and Ian on either side of me.

“Where’s Alex?” Adam asks.

“I don’t know. She was gone when I woke up.”

We arrive at the school and I unload my books into my locker. Adam’s locker is right next to mine.

“You ready for coffee after?” He asks me.

“Can’t wait!”

Adam is really nice. I’m glad he doesn’t know about last year. He invited me to coffee after school. He says he knows a good place. I can’t wait to get away from school where everyone knows about freshmen year. That’s why I love when Corray De Lor ends and we can all go home and come back after spring break.

Class is better than yesterday. No mass texts from Ginny Richardson. No staring. No whispering. Just school.

But after all periods when I’m about to head to the courtyard, Alex pulls me in a corner with Ginny, Adam and Ian.

“Uhh. Hey.”

“Look, Calber. The reason why you were having such a good day is because I didn’t remind anyone of last year. And these losers say they have proof that then picture from last year is fake.”

When I see Adam, it feels like a hand is twisting my intestines. He knows.

“Yes. The picture is indeed fake. And yes, we do have proof. Ginny, step aside.” Alex pulls a laptop from her bag and puts on a video. The camera is set on the dresser in Adam, Ian and Darcy’s bedroom. Adam approaches Darcy and starts to speak with him. First it sounds like Adam is on Darcy’s side and he’s calling Alex a farceur?

“Good thing we both know the truth.” Adam says.

Darcy agrees. Adam knew all this time? He was with Darcy? My eyes scowl at Adam. But he’s too preoccupied with the video.

At the end of the video, Adam looks straight into it and laughs. “In your face, Ginny!”

Ginny folds her arms when the video ends.

“So.”

“So? Darcy confessed it was fake. He said in the video that he took a picture. I mean, he agreed with Adam.”

I look at Adam again.

“That was fake, right?”

“Yes, of course. I didn’t know about last year till Ian told me yesterday.”

I’m happy and kind of sad at the same time. I’m glad Adam isn’t bad but he knows about last year. That means I don’t have a friend who doesn’t know about the picture. Maybe it’s best I don’t keep secrets from him if I want this friendship to work.

“Alright. The proof is good. As much as it kills me to say, but I’ll leave all this stuff behind as if it never happened. Since I’m a queen bee, if one of my minions asks me about it I’ll scold her.”

When Ginny says that, I feel like she’s not too bad. But she has always been a brat.

Darcy found out he was being filmed and he’s pretty mad. But whatever. I’m just glad I can go to coffee with a nice guy.

When we enter the shop it’s warm and colorful. We sit down and an Italian man comes over and opens his arms to Adam.

“Adam! My boy! What are you doing here?”

“I go to school here, Uncle.”

“Ah, yes of course! And who is this?”

“This is Gwen Calber. Gwen, meet my Uncle Carlo, the owner of this shop.”

I stare at him in disbelief. When Carlo leaves I must smile so big.

“Your uncle owns this coffee shop? That is awesome.”

“Yep, for twenty years now.”

“Twenty years?”

“Yep.”

When we order our coffee, Adam smiles weird at me.

“Your hair looks nice.”

“Thanks. I use a new shampoo.”

“Cool.”

“Please, that is not cool.”

Adam laughs and so do I.

I wonder I now my school life will be different. Will everyday be like this morning? That would be so nice. And next year no one will even remember anything!

I am so thankful for friends who care about me. Especially Adam.
