Julie’s PoV

I looked down at my lap when she said that.

“What?” she chuckled. “You think I couldn’t tell?”

I laughed a little.

“If I had to blame it on one thing, it’d be your reputation.”

“Oh yeah? And what’s my reputation?”

“Well…a criminal, I guess.”

She raised an eyebrow.

“And that makes me a mean person?”

“No…not you. It’s just that people who beat up other people are generally-“

“Honey, I beat up shitheads and the dicks that pick on innocent little girls like you.”

I didn’t know what to say.

“You have nothing to worry about, trust me. I know you, Ms. Juliette Cantrell.”

I smiled.

Are we…friends, now?

What she said next was pretty much a dead giveaway for that question.

“Hey, you got a nickname? There’s gotta be something cool that’s shorter that ‘Juliette Cantrell’…”

“Well, my friends and family call me Julie-“

“Not cool. You need something that’s different. Preferably something you’ve never been called before.”

“I don’t know.”

Her eyes lit up.

“J.C.”
