Sorry for the long hiatus guys. I just hate it when professors act like their class is the only thing of importance that you're doing in your life. With class and work, I'm barely sleeping as it is.
Anyhow, I'm updating two chapters this time. The next couple of chapters are the preliminary battles. Some are staying the same, and others are different. Between the six added characters, only two of them are fighting. I wonder who.
The trio that formed Team 9 found themselves in luck. Since it was still the early morning of the fourth day, there weren't as many teams close to the tower waiting for incoming prey. It made it easy enough for them to sneak around and get through without being noticed.
The tower at the center of the forest was a six-floor tall pagoda that looked more like a bunch of houses stacked on top of one another. The walls were red and the roofs yellow and white, and the windows were scattered around messily.
Three pairs of blue ninja sandals stepped inside the tower, walking toward the area where any teams that had passed were supposed to wait until the end of the exam.
When they had first arrived, they were met with a number of identical double doors around the first floor of the tower, and they randomly picked one. Through each one of those doors what was found was the same identical empty room with writing on the wall.
The black strokes went from top to bottom, the writing filled with the strength and solemnity of its writer. It had read: "If Heaven does not exist, enrich your knowledge and prepare for the chance. If Earth does not exist, run the fields in search of an advantage. Open the series of Heaven and Earth and the perilous way shall be redressed. This is namely the secret of 'the one that guides'."
It was somewhat confusing for most people, but at the very least, considering the keywords, it wasn't hard to figure out that opening both scrolls together was probably what needed to be done. Of course, if you were someone like Takashi, then "obviously" is the same as "undecipherable".
Luckily for the idiot, he didn't end up in a team with Naruto and Choji. If those three had been the ones paired up together, they would have been royally screwed most of the time.
"What's with those annoying faces?! I just didn't know what it meant?!"
The rumbling Takashi could be heard throughout the building. His face steaming red as he followed behind his extremely annoying teammates.
"Well, obviously you wouldn't understand its actual meaning. But wasn't the huge 'Heaven' and 'Earth' characters enough of a clue about what we were supposed to do?" [Name] glanced back at the fuming boy.
His anger turning into embarrassment, "I-I just didn't notice... What about it?!"
Renji patted his brother's back with what he considered to be reassurance, "It's all right, Niisan. Even if your brain is useless, with me and [Name]-san here, you won't need to use it in the first place."
"You, shut up!!"
"Ara, you guys just made it now?"
That teasing and familiar voice, rather than making the exhausted Team 9 angry, it made smiles break out in their faces. The three didn't look beat up, but after spending three days and nights in the Forest of Death, with today being the fourth, they were dirty and smelly.
Compared with Team 8's cleanliness and orderly appearance, Team 9 looked like a sorry mess.
Kiba hadn't meant anything bad, and hidden within his teasing was some concern. It wasn't just due to the fact that they studied together at the Academy. [Name] might have hidden her abilities while at the Academy, but Takashi's Taijutsu surpassed everyone at the Academy and Renji's Genjutsu was quickly improving. After seeing Gaara's strength and ruthlessness in the forest, Kiba had to wonder what could have caused this team a setback.
