Other than the time and location of the second exam, the poor little lambs weren't able to get anything else from their sensei. Not when it came to what the test was about or about that creepy proctor. Everything they got were looks of sympathy and pity from them.
It wasn't until the next day that they understood why.
"W-What is this place...?"
The wind blew through the dense forest full of tall and thick trees. From the outside, nothing could be seen inside other than darkness through the small spaces between the trees.
Surrounding the forest was a tall fence with signs hanging all over it that said "NO TRESPASSING", "RESTRICTED AREA", "DO NOT ENTER", and "DANGER". Every single one of the gates tightly locked with chains.
A worn-out table with a wooden roof was placed by the side, three ninjas dressed in grey suits just like the ones the sentinels from the first test wore sat side by side there.
Anko, the second examiner, moved to stand in front of the group of Genin that had passed. A mocking smirk decorating her countenance, "Welcome to the stage for the second test, the 44th Training Field. Also known as... the Forest of Death."
As if agreeing with her, a strong breeze passed right then, chilling the Genin to the bone and freezing their blood.
"The Forest of... Death?!"
Other than the more experienced ninjas, the Genin were terrified just from hearing the name and staring at the creepy-looking forest that seemed to have come right out of a horror book.
[Name] wrinkled her brows, carefully inspecting the site. Although she wasn't using her Byakugan, to avoid as many people as possible from finding out about one of her trump cards, her senses when it came to chakra were still pretty high. It didn't reach as far as it would with the Byakugan, but she could check around the outer area to know what they were walking into.
"So, how is it?" Takashi sent her a glance, arms crossed as he stood by the side. Though her expression didn't give him or his younger brother much hope.
Letting out a sigh, [Name] turned to face her teammates, "I can't say about the forest as a whole, but the outer region is already filled with wild creatures. Therefore..."
Renji finishing the words she left unsaid, "It is very likely that either there are even more creatures the farther we go in, or that there is something more terrifying close to the center which keeps them away."
"Mm-hmm. No matter which it is, both are pretty bad options." [Name] could feel a headache coming already, and they still didn't even know what the test was. As she was deep in her thoughts, [Name] suddenly snapped her head to the side, startling the twins.
"What's the matter?" asked Takashi worriedly. He wasn't used to seeing this little devil reacting so strongly to most things. Not to mention that nothing had happened for her to react to it.
[Name] remained looking around for a whole minute. Frowning with confusion written all over her face. "Not sure... I felt someone's gaze along with a somewhat... familiar aura..."
The twins became serious, but no matter how much they searched, no one seemed to be paying them any attention. At least not anymore.
That feeling of being prey to an unknown person was scary as hell. Unfortunately, there was nothing much they could do about it other than increasing their guard to not fall into anyone's trap. Squeezing his fists, Takashi tried to placate himself and the other two, "Maybe it's that Kenzou bastard from Kusagakure we met before. He didn't seem to particularly like you."
