Lucas's POV
Shoot. Why'd I have to choose truth?
"I like..." I look around at all my friends' faces. "Um," I say.
"I like..." I begin again. Then Shawn walks in.
"Cor said to be in the kitchen in 5 minutes for dinner!" he announces. I let out the breath I didn't realize I'd been holding.
Farkle is staring at me. "You got lucky," he mouths. I nod, taking a deep breath.
Riley and Maya seem to be doing this sort of unspoken communication thing. Riley keeps poking Maya and gesturing toward me. I turn around hurriedly. Do I have something on my face?
The girls leave, Farkle and I following behind them, almost close enough to hear what they're saying.
Riley whispers to Maya, then Maya hits her, then Riley laughs like it's the funniest thing ever. They do this over and over and over.
We all sit down to spaghetti and meatballs. Mr. Matthews is still driving, so Riley goes to tell him to stop the trailer for dinner. Meanwhile, I scoot my seat a little closer to Maya. I hope it's not obvious.
Mr. Matthews and Riley come back out. Riley takes her seat next to Maya.
"So what's the news, captain?" Ms. Hart asks. She and Shawn are sitting close to each other, and I notice that everytime he looks at her she blushes.
"We're about 2 hours from my parents' house," he begins. "We'll visit them and Josh tomorrow morning. There's a trailer park an hour or so from here, so I figure we'll stay there for the night."
Shawn sort of squirms at the mention of "trailer park". I wonder why. I wonder if I'll ever know why.
"Morgan lives in Baltimore," Mr. Matthews goes on, "And Eric... well we'll see where he is when we get to Morgan's."
The adults continue planning how long we're going to stay in each place, and how much of what food they need to get, and all that stuff. Auggie asks to be excused, so we all do too. Soon we're back in Riley and Maya's room, deciding what movie we want to watch. Finally we settle on The Sound of Music, and the grown ups and Auggie and Ava all watch with us. It's sort of crowded with all 10 of us, but it feels cozy.
Watching movies with the Matthews Family is never dull. Riley and Maya belt out practically every song that comes on, and even Auggie and Ava join in for "My Favorite Things". I love watching Maya sing. She's so sure of herself, and has a beautiful voice.
Maya sings alone for "Something Good", the song with Maria and Captain Von Trapp. It really is a love song, and I catch myself humming along to the captain's part. Maya sees and smiles. I smile back.
Farkle is going to love this.
By the time the movie is done, it is almost midnight, and Auggie and Ava have already fallen asleep. We all trudge back to our rooms too. Tomorrow is going to be fun.

A/N: Wasn't going to post this until tomorrow, but we all need as many fake laya moments as we can get before Girl Meets First Date tonight. Next chapter will also be from Lucas's POV. A surprise character shows up...
