Summer Love

Chapter 5

Riley's POV

Today's the day! 

Early in the morning, Mom and Dada and Auggie and I all woke up and loaded the trailer. We had to bring some food, and Auggie tried to bring all of his toys. After a long debate with Mommy, he finally settled on just Mr. Googley and a few of his "Oogley googley friends!"

I was just finishing packing some clothes when I heard a knock on the door. Smoothing my hair, I run over. I open it to find Farkle. 

"Lady," he says, flipping his hair. 

"Farkle," I reply, all flirty. Or, at least I think I'm being flirty. I honestly have no idea. 

My palms are starting to sweat, and I wipe them on my bright flowery dress. I notice that Farkle's still staring at me. 

"What?" I ask. Do I have something on my face? I think frantically. 

"Nothing," he says. "You just look really beautiful." 

I blush.

"I mean, you always do, I just especially wanted to tell you now." he says hurriedly. 

"Thanks," I manage to squeak. Why is this so hard? I've known Farkle since 1st grade. But back then I didn't have a crush on him, so it was never awkward between us. 

I feel like it's my turn to speak, but I don't know what to say. What if I make a complete fool of myself? 

Luckily, Maya and Lucas walk in, saving me. 

"What's up, goofballs!" Maya exclaims, dancing throught the door. We hug. 

"What up, man?" Lucas asks. He and Farkle do their handshake while Maya and I do ours. Then the door opens again, revealing a tiny, blonde girl.

"Hey everyone, look at me!" she sings, sashaying in. "It's Ava, Morgen, Stern!"

We all turn to look, ridiculously fake smiles on our faces.

"Yay. It's Ava Morgenstern!" Maya says, faking enthusiasm.  

 "Yup," Ava says. Then she looks around. "Where's Auggie?" 

"Oh, we're going on a road trip-" Farkle says. Maya cuts him off. 

"He means we're going on a-" Maya begins to say. Ava interrupts her. 

"A road trip? Can I come?" 

Topanga walks in right at the last second. She quickly turns to leave, but Ava already saw her. 

"Topanga! Can I come? Please please please please please?" 

Mrs. Morgenstern walks in. "Oh, Topanga, how lovely is it that you and your daughter, Auggie, are taking Ava with you on your little car ride."

Topanga growls. "The 'little car ride' that was supposed to be a relaxing trip?" 

"Oh yes, I believe that was the one. Come along, Ava, let's go pack your bags."

Once they leave, Topanga turns to all of us. "What have we gotten ourselves into?"
