Matt's POV

"Matt, get out of bed," Brian shook me side to side.

"No," I said firmly pulling the covers tightly around me.

"Matt ,your mom says haven't moved in two days," he said tugging at the bottom of the covers.

"So why would you expect today to be any different?" I rolled over.

Normally, I didn't mind Brian bothering me. We'd been friends for years and he was usually pretty good for a laugh. He was the perfect king of Huntington Beach High ever since he transferred. Girls worshipped him because of his clean cut good looks androck star talent. His father was a renowned musician and Brian was a member of the Guitar Institute of Music. I was just a guy that liked to sing outloud. Sometimes I wonder how we became friends but we were. He was my best friend but right now he was just being a pain in the ass.

I figured if I closed my eyes, he'd go away but I was wrong. I opened one eye and saw him standing there over my bed with a frown on his usually perfect face.

"I've moved." I said sullenly sitting up.

"You may have moved but you haven't bathed and you really smell. Get up," he said pulling the covers off of me.

I knew he wasn't going to leave me alone until he got his way, which I had no intention of letting him do, or unless told him what was going on. The covers were just the first line of attack. Next he'd lift the mattress to drop me out of bed. "Val dumped me." So much for not giving in.

Brian didn't seem surprised. "I give it a day..,two at the most.,.and then you two will be slobbering all over each other again."

"No I think she's serious this time."

"Why? Did you make her break a nail? Seriously Matt, she's so damn shallow. I wouldn't mind if you two really did break up."

I must have made a sad face because he immediately apologized.

"I'm sorry. You wanna talk about?"

"Not really."

"Ok well you gotta get up. We're heading over to Patrick Cagle's party, remember? Liliana will be there." He said excited. Brian had a thing for the most popular girl in school, or at least he pretended to. Although I couldn't really see why. She was a tiny blond trouble maker. I guessed it because he was trying to forget some mystery girl that he admitted existed but never gave me a name.

"She dumped me for some dude named Mark Harrison." I blurted.

"I thought you didn't want to talk about it."

"I don't. I'm just sayin."

"Mark Harrison?" he asked

"Yeah, you know him?"

"I don't know him but I know who he is."

I waited for him to elaborate but he didn't.

"Well?"

"Well what?"

"Who is he?"

"Well he used to be Lucy Bass' boyfriend. Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong guy. It's been a while since I've paid attention to who she's with."

Lucy Bass? I knew who she was. She was the motor mouth space cadet that was Zoey Baker, Zacky's little sister, best friend. She talked and talked and talked...more than anyone I've ever met. She dated this moron? I wonder if it's true. I have to find this out. Maybe she'd be at the party. Maybe she could shed some light for me. Maybe she could explain what this joker could possibly have that I don't?
