Matt's POV

"Tell me why you've dragged us out here?" Brian complained loudly as we made our way to the school football field.

"I want to check out Lucy at practice," I replied.

"And you had to drag all our asses out here? Seriously, just fuck her and get it over with so we can't back to our normal after school routine," he continued.

That earned him a punch from Zacky and I shot him a grateful smile.

"I'm not trying to fuck her, Brian," I replied "I'm trying to date her."

"Same difference," he mumbled as we took a seat on the bleachers.

"Look at the legs on that girl," Zacky marveled "They are wider than Jimmy's whole body."

"And look at how long that girl's legs are," Jimmy added and pointed for good measure. "She's like a human spider."

At that moment she kicked the soccer ball directly at Jimmy who caught it quickly before  it slammed into Brian's face.

"I can fucking hear you, you dickwad," the tall girl said flipping us off as she ran across the field.

We all laughed.

"She almost nailed you in the face," Johnny said surprised "That was like perfect aim."

"Look there," Jimmy leaned over to slap my arm "There is your girl."

I turned in the direction he was pointing to. There was Lucy all right. In her practice uniform and her long brown hair pulled up in ponytail braid with a black band around her head, she looked intense. Her blue eyes were focused on the activity around her. Someone kicked an air ball into the middle of the box in front of the goal.

I watched amazed as Lucy jumped higher than the two girls covering and knocked the ball with her head into the corner of the goal.

"Yeah!" I cheered out loud causing Brian to look at me like I was crazy.

"That was pretty bad ass," Zacky offered smiling wide, giving me a high five.

It was weird but I felt a little bit of pride as I watched her teammates pat her on the back and the game reset.

Val wasn't a sports gal. To my knowledge, she never played anything in her life. I never thought of it as a bad thing and it certainly wasn't. I loved Val for everything she was. As my childhood sweetheart, Val was all I'd ever known.

But seeing Lucy out there gave me new respect for something I never considered before, the fact that I could be attracted to girls who weren't Val.

Lucy's POV

After practice, I was drinking water and standing on the sidelines wondering what the hell Sanders and the motley crew were doing in the stands.

I hadn't ever seen them at any school sport event, let alone lowly soccer practice.

"What are the dead heads doing here?" Emily Wilson asked tucking one end of her shorts into her compression shorts, accentuating her already long legs.

"Don't be bitchy cause Sullivan called you a spider," Reilly Hinson said between sips.

"I'll show him a fucking spider," Emily muttered.

"Still doesn't explain why they are here," Mary Kaye Kane huffed fixing her shin guard.

Might as well get this over with. "I'm dating Sanders."

10 sets of eyes looked at me.

"You're dating Sanders?" Emily asked "The one with the dimples right?"
