Matt’S POV
On Sunday morning, I woke up feeling much better than before. Now that Lucy had given me an idea of how to make this plan really work, I felt like it would just be a matter of days before Val was back in my arms. For a brief second, I remembered the electricity that seemed to vibrate from Lucy’s skin. I shook my head as if that would clear my thoughts.
I began thinking that I hoped that the plan worked as fast for her. She was a cool chick and deserved better than her meathead ex but hey, to each his own, I always say.
Walking into the kitchen to get breakfast, I was greeted by Jimmy who had slept on my floor after the party last night.
“Mornin” I mumbled. It’s usually best to pretend to be in a bad mood to keep Jimmy from talking too much in the morning. I knew he’d spent most of the party with Leana and I didn’t want to hear a play by play analysis of their evening so early in the day.
“Morning,” he said as he fried bacon. It cracked me up how he helped himself into anything in the fridge. “Your mom and dad went to brunch with the Haners. They said to tell you to start a load of laundry.”
I nodded as I walked to the pantry to get some cereal and retrieved a bowl and spoon from the dish rack.
When he joined me at the table, the interrogation began.
"So what’s with you and Lucy Bass?" he asked as he added ketchup to his eggs.
"Whatever could you mean?" I asked innocently.
"Come on, Matt. What are you planning? I've known you our whole lives. I know you don't do anything for the fun of it.”
"Look we’re just friends. We’re getting to know each other again and I think she's… pretty cool." Yep I just said Lucy was cool. She was right, I am lame.
“Cool? “he asked with a raised eyebrow “Getting to know her again. Did you ever really know her before?”
“Well sure, better than you think. She’s always with Zoey and I’ve gotten to hang out with a few times at Zacky’s. Last night, we hit it off.”
“And this has nothing to do with the fact her boyfriend is banging Val?” Jimmy asked seriously.
“I should punch you out for that shit,” I growled.
“You should but we both know I can kick your ass,” he said simply.
I scoffed but cleared my head “I’m getting to know her that’s all.”
“Getting to know her,” he said with a doubtful look on his face. “Did you ask her what her favorite color was?”
What?" I asked in shock. Where in the hell did that come from? “Why would I ask her that? Did you ask Leana that the first time you spent time with her? Who even knows that shit about another person?”
He looked at me very seriously "You should always know your friend’s favorite color."
“You’ve known me all your life and I’ll bet you don’t know mine?” I asked incredulously.
“It’s blue,” He said never missing a beat.
“How the fuck did you know that?.”
“I just do. What’s my favorite color?” he asked.
Was he kidding? I took a guess “Green?”
“Exactly. My point has been proven.”
"Trust me, James Owen; we didn't talk about our favorite color.” I told him.
