Ch.18

Master Splinter joined us at the table and we began eating the pizza.

"I remember once when Donnie was like six, he almost blew us all up! He was doing some weird experiment in the middle of the night while we were all asleep, then suddenly BOOM! " said Raph.

I couldn't help but laugh with everyone, especially seeing Donnie so embarrassed at the memory.

"Are you still mad about that?! How many times do I have to apologize?!" he yelled back at Raph.

"Oh, and remember when he knocked himself out? We found him on the floor of the lab some hours afterwards and he didn't wake till the next day!" said Leo.

"How'd you do that?" I asked Donatello laughing.

"I-I mixed the wrong chemicals together and...the gas it produced knocked me out..." he said bright red.

"And remember the time Don-"

"Enough about my failures!" Donnie interrupted Mikey.

"Yes, stop teasing your brother," said Master Splinter, "but I too remember when you blew your lab up and we had to smother the fire before it spread."

"A fire?! How old was he?" I asked surprised Donnie had so many failures. He always seemed so confident in his lab that I'd thought he was too much of a genius to make a single mistake.

"Ten?" he answered stroking his beard.

Again, I laughed and Donnie was getting more and more flustered.

"Could we please move on?" he almost yelled. This just made me laugh more and he seemed to have given up. Are we offending him?

"Soo, when are we gonna eat the cake?" I tried changing the subject for Donnie's sake.

His eyes lit up at first, but he had to work to contain his shock and disappointment at the store bought cake Mikey placed on the table.

I got up and he followed me with his eyes. He looked confused when I placed a small box in front of him.

"What's this?" he asked.

"Your cake," I replied as I opened the box.

His eyes widened and he looked up at me with a huge, adorable smile, "Thank you, I'm sure it's delicious."

I could feel my face heat up. "Oh, umm, your welcome."

After eating cake, we all went to the living room and Master Splinter soon excused himself.

Again, soon afterwards, Donnie's brothers started antagonizing him, but this time Donnie finally snapped.

"Could you guys shut-up?!!! Why do you insist on making fun of me?! You guys could at least try to be nice to me on my birthday!!!!" Donnie yelled at them...but it wasn't his usual yell...it was the loudest I had ever heard him, and it probably woke Splinter up from meditating...it would've scared me...but...it was too funny to not laugh at!!

Donatello looked at me in shock and stormed off, now I was scared I had offended him.

The rest of us sat in silence for a while, but I decided to break it, "Should we go apologize? I mean, it is his birthday. We shouldn't let it end like that..."

"Ehh, I think we should let him cool off a bit first and we'll apologise when he comes back," said Leo.

"Yeah, Donnie gets mad pretty easily. Like, if I throw a water balloon at him, he'll chase me and yell at me," said Mikey.

Leo started inching towards the remote.

"Oh no," said Raph snatching it before Leo could get it. "We are not going to watch Space Heroes!"

"But-" I started.

"If your so worried, why don't you go apologize? I mean, it is your fault he left. Go give that wimp of a ninja a hug or pat his shell or give him a big box of tissues so he can wipe his tears!" said Raph annoyed.

"Wait what? How is it my fault he left?! You guys were the ones messing with him!" I said angry at being blamed.

"But he only got mad when you started laughing."

"So he wasn't mad when he was yelling?!"

"But he left after you laughed."

Leo and Mikey said nothing, but watched us intently as Raph and I glared each other down.

This turtle wants to get cut.

"Ugh, fine, whatever. I'm going to apologize for what I did," I said heading for Donnie's room.

"Don't forget to hug him!" Raph called after me. I rolled my eyes.
