One day about two weeks after Donnie's birthday, I arrived to the lair to find a very beaten up, and unconscious Donatello. His brothers were arguing around him.
"Oh my god! What happen to Donnie?!" I asked rushing to his side. He was covered in cuts, and bruises were starting to form. He'd be in a lot of pain when he woke up.
"We were fighting the Kraang and I guess he was distracted with something on their computers, so he was attacked by like 15 Kraang at once. We had to pull him out and retreat," explained Leo.
"Will he be okay?" I asked as I sat on the floor next to the couch upon which Donnie laid.
"Yeah, which is why we should go back and finish what we started! Let's go Leo! Donnie's gonna be fine here!" said Raph.
"But we can't just leave him!" insisted Leo.
"I'll stay with Donnie! And isn't Master Splinter here as well?" I asked.
"No, he sometimes wonders through the sewer to be completely alone from time to time. Thank you for staying! You can leave as soon as Master Splinter comes back!" said Leo as they left.
Looking over Donnie in this condition, an overwhelming grief came over me. If I didn't lean close, I couldn't even see him breathe.
I was conflicted on whether to touch him or not. I wanted to, but was scared of hurting him.
"Uhh," whimpered Donnie.
"Donnie? Are you okay? Do you want some water? Donnie?" I asked relieved he was conscious.
"Y/n?" he whispered.
"Yes?"
"Y/n?"
"I'm right here Donnie."
He lifted his hand, but he couldn't hold it up. I caught it as it came back down.
"You're not...not," he trailed off .
"Yes I am. I'm right here Donnie," I assured as I squeezed his hand slightly.
"Noooo..."
"Donnie! I'm. Right. Here."
"Don't go..."
"What?"
"Don't leave..."
"I'm not going to leave Donnie. I'll even send the night! Do you want me to?" I asked trying to calm him.
"Stay."
"Okay, Imma call my mom," I said as I started to let go of his hand to go get my bag.
He gripped me, "Don't go...you're not..."
"Donnie, I have to call my mom. I'm not even leaving the room."
He loosened his grip and I took the chance to break free and grab my phone.
I came back to Donnie's side, and after some consideration, I took his hand again. Seeing Donatello in this condition must have lowered my wall considerably because in normal conditions, I'd never have taken his hand.
"Y-Y/n," he started again.
"Shh! I'm about to call my mom and she cant know you're a boy. Your name is Danielle to her."
"Really?" he whispered almost grinning.
"Shh!" I said placing my finger on his mouth to quiet him.
This time he managed to grin under my finger.
Omg, did I just do that? I'm glad he can't see how red I probably am right now.
My mom soon picked up and I slowly lifted my finger from Donnie's lips. After a lie about some huge project, a frantic tone, and throwing my future at her, I finally got permission to stay, with regular check-ups.
Still hand-in-hand, I looked over to the softly snoring Donatello. I leaned my head on the couch where he slept and eventually I, too, fell asleep.
Donnie's P.O.V.
Y/n, you're not safe! You can't go back to the surface! They're after you! I was in excruciating pain and couldn't get the warning across to Y/n, but since she was spending the night, I could wait until morning.
After I had woken up, I noticed Y/n was asleep, her head inches away from mine and her hand still holding mine!
I squeezed her hand slightly and, though she didn't wake, she furrowed her eyebrows. I loved all her facial expressions and was gaining confidence in reading them, mostly.
At first I thought she was very expressionless towards everything, but the more I observed, the more I could see her subtle, but definitely there, expressions. Sometimes they lasted a fraction of a second, and sometimes she held it. Her eyebrows and lips usually were the indicators of what she thinks about something. She reacts to everything, which is the opposite of what I had originally thought.
Her blush was the only thing that both confused and excited me. Y/n's blush was a startling crimson against her skin.
My nap and knowing Y/n was going to stay here had calmed me. What if she were to say my name in her sleep? I waited a while listening to her breathe. I guess she isn't much of a sleep talker.
I'm lonely, maybe i could wake her up? But what if she lets go of my hand? I squeezed her hand at the thought of losing it.
Still asleep, she moved her head, and laid it on my arm.
"Oh." I could feel part of her cheek and her hair tickling my hand.
A sudden lust to hold her and caress her came over me, but at the same time, I was satisfied with this.
It was about 2:30 a.m. when my brothers returned. They exchanged urgent whispers.
"Guys?" I croaked from the couch where Y/n was still asleep on my arm.
"You up Donnie?" asked Leo.
"Yeah."
"How do you feel?" asked a concerned Mikey.
"Like I was run over by a bus. Twice."
"Hmph, you're supervisor seems to be doing a great job," teased Raph.
"Oh, she wasn't asleep the whole time," I defended Y/n. "Hey," I started seriously, "I don't know why, but the Kraang are targeting Y/n, and a couple others."
"Is that what you were looking at when you were attacked?" asked Leo.
"Yeah." We all looked at Y/n, worried.
"But why? And who else is targeted?" asked Raph.
"I don't know, and I only got the see the list for a couple of seconds before I was surrounded, so I don't remember."
"Well, for now, Y/n shouldn't leave. We'll have to discuss this with Splinter in the morning as well," resolved Leo.
They all went to their rooms to sleep, leaving Y/n and I.
Before going to sleep, I slowly and gently began to stroke Y/n's hair with my free hand. I was confident she wouldn't wake, She's a deep sleeper. Oh, how I wish I could do this when she was awake. I just can't get rid of the hope I have for us to be together. And slowly, without noticing, I feel asleep.
