▪︎ Currently watching Age of Ultron so I have a bit of motivation to write... especially about Steve because I love him and I miss him. ▪︎
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
I slip my hand into Steve's and try my best to smile at him. He squeezes my hand and looks over at me. He smiles and then turns his head to the case of Infinity Stones. I watch him pick them up with his empty hand. I feel my heart pound as he lifts the case and then suddenly, out of the blue, I speak up.
"Go back to her." I spit out. Steve looks back up at me raising an eyebrow. He looks confused.
"What?" He mumbles.
"To Peggy. You have the opportunity to see her and you know it!" I sigh. "You love her and we both know it. We only became a thing when you thought you could never get her back, but now you can!" We stand in silence for a moment. It's kind of a random thing I've thrown upon him, but I had to tell him here and now...
"(Y/N)-" I cut him off, pulling him into a hug.
"I love you and you know that, and that's why I want you to do this!" I spit out. I look at Steve, tears welling up in his eyes.
"What will you do?" He asks.
"I'll keep fighting. Help put the Avengers back together. Anything I can to help the people and our friends." I smile, trying not to cry. I can do that later. I don't wanna show him how much this will hurt me. There's a long pause between our conversation. Steve searches for words.
"I don't want this to be the end." Is all Steve can say.
"But you'll be happier with Peggy. I saw you visiting her before anything happened between us. I saw you at her funeral and visiting her grave. You still love her and want her." I watch as he stares at me. Suddenly, he pulls me in and kisses me. I squeeze my eyes shut which let's one tear slip from my eye. Steve suddenly pulls away, still inches away from my face.
"Are you sure you're okay with this?" Steve asks.
"Yeah... have the life you always wanted, and please, dear God, give yourself a rest." I chuckle a bit. Steve nods.
"Cap, you ready?" Bruce calls from behind. I wipe away Steve's tears and he turns around, nodding to Bruce. I walk up to Steve and kiss him on the cheek and then go to meet up with Sam and Bucky. Steve made sure to say goodbye to them earlier, he had saved me for last.
A few hours earlier I told Bucky what I was gonna tell Steve. He told me it was a loving thing to do and really showed how much I cared for Steve.
Bucky looks down at me and pulls me closer to him, telling me it's gonna be okay. I let a tear fall, but wipe it away as Steve heads onto the time travel pad. He looks at Sam, Bucky and I. I can see him smile as the three of us wave.
Suddenly Steve disappears. I feel my cheeks heat up and my eyes fill with tears. Bruce starts counting down for when he should be showing back up. Bucky grabs me and begins walking off with me, not wanting me to cry in front of everyone else like this.
"Where is he!? Bring him back!?" Sam yells in the distance.
"It'll be okay." Bucky mutters. I know Bucky's hurting too... Steve meant everything to him.
"Steve!" Sam exclaims, never seeming more relieved. Bucky pauses and looks back.
"Steve!?" Bucky yells out.
"You scared the hell out of me!" Sam shouts.
"(Y/N), look..." Bucky spins me around and I see Steve. Steve drops the case of where the Infinity Stones once were and begins walking over to me. Bucky steps away, smiling at Steve. It's the happiest I've really seen Bucky.
"What are you doing here?" I let another tear fall, my face bright red. He walks over to me and wipes my tears away, hugging me. "You could've been happy." I cry harder, but he just pulls me closer, squeezing me. I'm trying to calm my breathing, stop my tears, anything to make myself looks strong and less upset, but I can't. I just love him so much...
"But then you wouldn't be and that's not fair because all you've ever done was make sure I'm okay." Steve says only loud enough for me to hear. "And it's time for me to live in the present, not the past. Peggy was years ago, she was my first love, but you're my true love." I look up at him, my heart pounding, my legs jelly. What did just say? He cups my face with his hand and wipes away my tears again. We stand in silence for a moment, gazing into each others eyes.
"I love you, Steve." Is all I can say. I have no words. I mean, ever since Steve and I became a thing, I always thought I would be second in comparison to Peggy, but he chose me.
"I love you too, (Y/N), and I'm gonna do everything I can to make you happy from now until the end of our lives." Steve smiles and leans in to kiss me. I hear Bucky chuckle and then walk off with Sam. I wrap my arms around Steve's neck and he lifts me off the ground.
