First Person POV
Though it was under the worlds worst circumstances, I will never forget the moment I saw him again. My person, my one true love. The person I had shared a bed with, a lab with, a job with, everything.
Bruce.
When he disappeared after we destroyed Ultron, I thought he had died - we all did. I mean, what else would the cause have been? He had no reason to leave... in fact, he had all of the reason to stay. An important job - as both a hero and a scientist! He had friends and loved one - people who he looked at as family. He had me. Which at points sounds selfish, but our love was stronger than anyone could explain. None the less, he was gone... until that day.
I was sitting in the Avengers compound lab, looking over things I had already looked over about fifty times that day. I couldn't focus, couldn't think. My mind was rushing and the work was horrendous. Not many people hung out at the compound after everything that happened between Cap and Tony, but it was still my safe space.
"(Y/N)?" I heard a familiar voice call out in the distance... It was Tony. I remember being confused because it was one of his days off. He shouldn't have been here! This obviously meant something was up, so I hopped up from my seat and went wandering out of the lab cluelessly. It wasn't long until I found him, he looked... shocked... concerned... but also, happy?
"Tony, what's going on? Are you okay?" I asked him, crossing my arms and raising an eyebrow. He simply nodded along, before turning his head to look down the hall and nodding someone in. I stood in a mix of fear and curiosity, and then... there. He was standing right there. I stood in shock, mouth gaped open, immediately feeling the tears stream down my face. "Bruce-" My voice broke. I looked at Tony who gave me a slight smile before stepping away knowing I'd need a moment with Bruce and just Bruce. "What are you doing here? I thought you were-"
"Dead." He cut me off and finished my sentence before I could even try to. "I know... I'm sorry." He looked scared, as if he had disappointed me, and of course I was confused but I also knew that I had missed him. I had been wanting him back so badly, and that's what I was getting. I stared at him, observing all that had changed since the last time I saw him. I wondered if he felt the same. I wondered if he thought I had looked different. He grew tense, awkward as always, but perfect in every way. I ran up and hugged him, squeezing him to make sure this was all real and I wasn't losing my mind completely. "I didn't realize I was gone for so long." I could hear his voice breaking... Bruce crying? It was an unusual sight to see, so you knew he felt bad for all of this.
"It's okay-" I shushed him. "You're here now. That's what mattered, that's what always mattered." He hugged me back, his hands brushing up against my hips before going in and squeezing me tightly in return. The feeling was old, but it was so familiar, so perfect. I missed it. I missed him! I felt him lightly pull away, staring at me. His gaze strong, his eyes glossy, then pulling me in to a light kiss. Bruce was never a rough kisser, only ever sweet and soft kisses. Once again, something that felt so familiar and something I loved about him. I loved and continue to love everything about him.
"I love you so much, (Y/N). I'm sorry I left you here-" He kissed me again. You could tell how bad he felt about this entire thing. I didn't blame him for one second though. I know he wouldn't hurt me like this!
It was then that we heard someone clearing their throat... Tony. Of course it was Tony. The two of us pulled away fast, wiping our tears.
"Sorry to... uh... interrupt you." Tony chuckled.
"Oh, come on man!" Bruce groaned.
"I bet you didn't miss him very much." I smiled, wiping away the final tear.
"Hey! I don't want to interrupt, but it's about time Bruce that you tell her about what you told me." Tony crossed his arms, leaning onto the wall.
"Tell me about what?" I asked, turning to Bruce.
"You may want to sit down for this one... It's a bit of an emergency." Bruce sighed, rubbing his temples... Little did I know, I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
