22. Birth

MILEY'S POV

Demi was inside the ER ready to give birth. We were all sitting outside waiting for her. Joe had been panicking since she was brought inside.

"It's okay, Joe," I comforted him, putting a hand on his shoulder.

"I know. But if something happens to her..."

"What might possibly happen to her? She'll be fine," I say with a smile.

But on the inside, I was worried about Dem too.

Exhaling, I sat down in the waiting area when Kevin brings me a cup of coffee. It was late at night and I needed it.

"Thank you so much," I tell him.

"It's okay. It wasn't from me though," he says and sits down next to me.

I give him a puzzled look and he tells me to drop it. Inspite of my curiosity, I drop it because I know he was exhausted too.

Suddenly, we hear noises from the corridor outside. Kevin and I look at each other, puzzled.

Getting up we go out to check.

I see the doctor talking to our friends and we go to them as well.

"You have a beautiful son!" The doctor exclaims.

We all have smiles on our faces but Joe is still worried.

"How-How's Demi?"

"Oh, she's fine. A little drained of energy but she'll be okay."

Joe has a small smile of relief on his face and he asks, "Can I see her?"

His face is filled with hope but the doctor just purses his lips.

"I'm afraid, she's still unconscious. She's on a drip. She can leave as soon as she wakes up," the doctor says and seing the conversation, he goes into the ER.

We all sit back down and Joe says, "Guys, you all can go. I'm still here."

"No way. We're here as well," Kate says.

"Yeah, we won't leave till Demi's out," David says.

"But-"

"No, Joe. We're here," Selena says and makes it obvious that Joe was not winning the argument.

He gives us a small smile and sits down with us.

"I remember how we were all sitting here when Miley was inside the ER giving birth to Niley," says Kevin.

"Yeah... That time," says Joe.

"I remember seeing Nick's panicked face!" Kate says and laughs.

We all laugh at the memories and this is how we pass our time. Talking... Laughing...

Just being ourselves.

Finally, after an hour or two, the ER door opens and the doctor calls Joe inside.

We both hug Joe and give him positive motivation that it was all okay. That there were not just the two of them, but three.

"Doctor, can we all come too?" Nick asks.

"Yeah, sure. Go ahead."

We all burst into happy smiles and go into the ER.

We see Demi lying on the hospital bed drained of energy and her eyes just barely opening.

"Dem!"

We all make our way towards her.

"That was one hell of an experience," Demi says and snorts.

We all smile and hug and congratulate her.

The nurse brings in the baby in a blanket and we all sigh. The boy was so beautiful and I remember how Niley was, the first time I saw her milky white face.

"He's beautiful," Kate says and smiles.

Joe pecks his son on the cheek and Demi on the lips.

"We did it."

"Yep. Together," says Demi.

After half an hour, we were saying goodbye and heading home.
