20. Long Time, No See

MILEY'S POV

As Demi opened the door for Niles and I, we met Joe and Kevin. We gave all three of them a hug. I felt nostalgic meeting them after so many years. I updated Demi about my whereabouts and everyday chit chat but finally being able to meet her felt good.

I couldn't help but 'aww' at the baby bump on her.

"So... We're expecting a baby next month!" Demi exclaimed and I gave her a hug.

"That's so good! I'm happy for you."

I congratulated Joe and talked to Kevin about his future plans.

"Well... I got an eye on this amazing girl but..." Kevin says and scratches the back of his neck.

"Oh come on! Spill already."

"Her name's Ehsaan. She's Indian."

"Oooh, Indian," I say and wink.

"Yeah, and we've meet each other so many times. But everytime I meet her I find a new thing about her. I really adore her," Kevin says and smiles sheepishly.

"I want you to offer to take things forward. You're young and charming, she would want to be with you. I know it."

"Thanks, Miles."

We hug and move to meet everybody.

"Hi, guys!" I shout in the living room. Everybody's eyes are on me and I feel young again. I feel like with everybody's smiles I am going back to when we were friends forever.

Kate comes up and smiles at me. Hugging me she mumbles, "Long time, no see!"

"I know! Are you and David finally...?" I trail off.

"Oh, no. It just feels really early for marriage. We're still young and all," Kate says and rolls her eyes.

I can tell by looking in her eyes she's dying for David to propose her. Oh, poor Katey.

Nick, David and Selena sit on the couch. David is the only one smiling at us. Nick is looking elsewhere and Selena is giving me a smirk.

After I talk to Kate, I move to David who gives me a hug.

"Miles, I wanted some advice from you..."

"Ask away," I say with a smile.

"I'm thinking of proposing Kate."

And at that moment, as I see David scratch the back of his neck, I remember Kevin. Both of them were dying to spend their life with significant women but didn't have the guts to show it. I wish they were a little more courageous. Just like Nick.

I reminisce in the memory of how Nick had proposed me. I look at Nick looking at me with something in his eyes. Was that hope? We both look away and Selena gives me a death stare.

I move to the kitchen to get myself a drink. Taking a shot of tequila, I bob my head to clear the effect of it. Pouring myself some apple juice with vodka, I move to the living room where everybody's sitting.

Engaging in the conversation, we spend the next one hour talking. It was my second glass and I decided to have some champagne. I climb the stairs to a dark room and turn the lights on. Sitting on the bed with my feet up, I drink up the champagne and put the glass onto the side-table. It felt lighter than before.

I started humming a random tune when the door clicked open. I was a little surprised to see Nick enter and join me on the edge of the bed.

"Hi," he says and takes my hand in his. I scrunch my nose and pull my hand back.

"What the heck? If you fucking try to take advantage of me, I'll scream," I threaten him.

"Listen, baby. I..." By his tone, I could approve he was drunk. Not much but yes, he was.

I try to move away but he pulls me onto him.

"I'm tired of you, Nick, please do-"

Nick crashes his lips onto mine and my body flutters under this intimate touch. He pulls me onto his lap, folding my knees on either side of his body. Holding my face in one hand and the other under my dress on my thigh. I have one hand on his shoulder and one hand on his chest.

His kiss is hungry and I groan into his mouth. We kiss until we come apart for air. His lips travel to the side of my neck.

"I see how you respond to my touch," Nick says on my skin.

I moan as he sucks on the base of my neck.

"I swear, I'm gonna come undone," Nick says and moans.

I keep both my hands on his chest pushing him away. He gets that I'm trying to resist him but he doesn't stop.

"Nick," I say in an authoritative voice.

He stops and looks at me, both of our chest heaving.

"What did you do?" I whisper.

"Nothing that I'll ever regret. I love everything about you. Your lips. Your smile. Your eyes. It makes me want to be around you."

A knock appears on the door and I quickly climb off of his lap.

"Dinner's ready, Miles!" Kate shouts from outside.

"Okay, Kate!"

Nick and I scramble out of the room when nobody's looking. I fix my hair to look better.

Everybody chats and has food. Dem and I clean the plates and join everyone in their discussion.

Just then, David says, "Can I have everybody's attention please?" and gets up.

Everybody looks at him in confusion.

"I met this girl a long time ago and the day I saw her, I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. I just knew it."

Kate has a wide expression on her face. Was David cheating on her?

"I met her parents and seeked permission to do what I should have done a few months back," David says and looks towards Kate.

"Babe, please come over?" He says softly.

Kate has a stoned expression on her face. She is thinking David is going to explain to her why he did it and he was apologising for it.

Suddenly, he bends down on one knee and takes out a ring in front of him.

Without saying more, he says, "Will you marry me?"

Kate's face fills with relief and joy. She smiles and I could see tears whelming up in her eyes.

She whispers, "Yes. Yes. Yes!"

David pushes the ring onto her finger and gets up, crashing his lips hungrily onto Kate's.

Everybody was clapping and cheering.

Today's day actually turned out to be eventful. Counting the good and the not-so-sure things together, it was eventful.

It took us a while to settle down again.

By 11, everybody was leaving.

It felt good to meet everybody at one place and I couldn't wait for Kate and David's marriage and Demi and Joe's baby.

On reaching home tired, I slept in my bra and panties. I got Niles changed and took her to sleep with me only.

Waiting for the next day, I slept away soundly.

Anyway, I go back tomorrow. Next, I'll be coming on 1st April.
