MILEY'S POV

I was sitting on the sofa. I had been, for a long time. Will Nick find her?

The doorbell rang and Demi went to answer it. A Police officer walked in and behind him came two more of his men.

"Are you the mother of the child?" The police officer in the middle asked.

"Yes, Miley," I whisper.

"Officer Hobbs. I need to ask you a few questions," he says and sits down on the couch next to me.

"Will you find her?" I ask, out of curiosity.

"Uhm... It's hard to say without evidence. Now. About the questions. When did you last see her?"

"I saw her... When we were cutting the cake for Theo. She... She was eating it right there," I pointed towards the sofa chair beside the window.

The window.

I ran upto the window and saw that it was open.

"Who opened this?" I asked in shock.

"Miley, it was open long before the party even started. I opened it," Demi said.

Officer Hobbs came upto the window and checked around it.

He frowned at something just below it, outside, facing the lawn.

"What...?" But then he soon maintained his posture. "Brad, go check outside in the bushes."

One of the cops with him moved out of the house and soon came back with something in his hand.

And when I recognized it, my eyes went wide. The tears started welling up in my eyes as reality dawned on me.

It was Niley's shoe.

--

The front door opened and Nick came in through it. It was morning now and I hadn't slept a second. I was frustrated. And in this frustration, you don't really have the words like nap, sleep, etc. in your dictionary.

I was still crying.

Apparently, Officer Hobbs had found foot tracks on the damp soil in the lawn outside the house. The foot size was 8. The second one was one size bigger. That's all we know.

"What did we find?!" Nick panicked.

"Uh... Shoe tracks... Of the possible kidnappers. There... Are two of them and... They found one of Niley's shoes," I stammered as I told him.

"Don't worry, ma'am. We'll look for everything that we can find," Hobbs reassured us.

But when your own daughter has gone missing, what hope do you have left with your life?

--

Hobbs had asked around the houses if they had seen any motion or sound created at around midnight. All the houses had given a negative report but one hadn't.

It was Phoebe Gonzalez, a Spanish teenager who had seen two men in a black car outside the Jonas'. Apparently, she was on the phone with her boyfriend and she was looking out of the window and that's when she saw it.

"This is... Coming from a mother who's lost her child. And... I hope you can help me get her back. Please do not hide any information, alright?" I say and hold her hands, holding back my tears.

"Mrs. Collins. I can help. But as far as I can remember, I saw two men, one of average height and one tall in a black car. Your window was open and even I could see the party. They were outside Mr. and Mrs. Tonkin's house," said Phoebe.

"Tonkins?"

"Yeah, the house beside Mrs. Jonas's house."

"So they were keeping an eye on Niley..."

"Oh my God..." I trailed and tears brimmed in my eyes, "who the hell is doing this to us?"

"Miles, calm down. We need evidence, it's just that," Stan reassures me.

Nick gives a cold eye to Stan and I wonder why that is. I'm sure he was just deep in thought. Or so I think.

"We're going to look in the video recordings on the highway if we catch the culprits," Hobbs announces and says goodbye.

"I hope they find something. Anything," I say and sob.

"They will, baby," Stan says and kisses my lips. I kiss him back fervently.

I hear a cough and look at Nick.

"I-I have to go," Nick announces and leaves, "Miley, make sure you eat something."

Selena goes away behind Nick and they both drive away in their car.

Kate and David had already gone at around 5 A.M. because Thomas isn't well. Even though they insisted on staying, I had to send them back home.

"Darlin', I think we should go. Hobbs'll inform us if anything happens," Stan says and gets up, tugging at my hand.

--

When we reach our house in San Jose, I change into comfortable clothing and sleep the day through.

--

The next morning, I wake up to my phone ringing.

"Yes, what about the money?" I hear a man speak.

"What money? You son of a bitch, give me my daughter back," I speak distastefully.
