27. Truth

MILEY'S POV

Everything was spiralling down. The divorce and now this? I had decided to tell Niley eventually, at the right time but I didn't want her to find it out this way. Everything was getting worse.

"Great, thanks, bye," I said into the phone and hang up.

"I'm so sorry, honey," I say and Niley rushes out and goes into her bedroom.

"Niley! I can explain!" I shout from outside the door. But she still wouldn't open up.

I knocked several times and called her name but no such luck.

I know Niley was tired of everyone treating her like a baby. She wanted to grow up, to be mature. But I was holding her back. I never wanted her to grow up, she was my little angel.

Finally, the door clicked open and I rushed to take Niley in my arms. Tears were streaming down her face.

"How...?"

"Baby, let me explain. I'm sorry for holding you back. Nick is your father. But I need to tell you something. Dad and I had been married for eight years. But we aren't staying together. So we're getting separated. Divorced."

"But..."

"Sweetheart, I know it's alot for you to handle. And I'm sorry if this affects you. I didn't want your life ruined because of him."

"Mom, is this why Dad was coming around so much?"

So she did notice. She noticed how suddenly Nick and I had started talking more.
